I bought Deborah Lippmann’s Across The Universe nail lacquer on Jess‘ blog sale a few months ago. When I saw this, I immediately Googled swatches for it. One look, and I was sold.
I asked Jess why she was selling this gorgeous nail polish, and she said it didn’t turn out well for her. Since I wanted to make sure it shows as well as the swatches I saw, I sought my nail guru, Jacie.
Her tip to get the best out of this type of nail polishes? Swirl the brush around the bottle a few times, and make sure you get as much glitter on the brush on the brush as possible. Using the brush, place the glittering bits on the nail and adjust if necessary.
Okay, obviously my nails didn’t look as good as the ones I’ve seen on other beauty blogs, but sweet mama, it’s beautiful. It’s the first time I don’t have to worry about painting the polish on in perfect swipes. It doesn’t matter if it’s bumpy because after a coat of Seche Vite, all’s good.
One snag though – it’s a huge pain to remove. Even after pressing the nails with a cotton ball soaked with nail polish remover, the glitter was really tough to remove. My poor nails are all scratched and scruffy now *sigh*
Nevertheless, I shall keep this polish for special occasions because it’s still very pretty. Plus I’m like a magpie. Shiny things attract me.

O.M.G. I am so loving the color and the glitter! It would match this dress I have to a tee. And the name is also attracting me – I wants this so bad! 🙁

not yet! i just bought this online 2 days ago and i got so excited when i saw you reviewing it. i think i’ll have difficulty removing it because you need about 3 layers for intense color. acetone will have to do 🙁

looks pretty! but i find removing glitters to be a pain too :S sometimes they stay on for weeks especially on the toes!

Xin: It IS a pain to remove. I managed to strip the colour off the glitter; in the end, silver sparkly bits remained on my nails, stuck to them like super glue. I had to scrape them off with an orange stick, scratching my nails badly 🙁
This is a very pretty glittery affair!! Shame about the scratches on your nails though – how about a base coat? Would that help?

Ling: I had base coat on, but nope, didn’t work. Figured I could only leave this to special occasions, and can’t wear this often. Just looking at the shiny bits in the pretty bottle is good enough for me in between 😛
oooo…. pretty! I’m never really a nail polish girl though… when the bug bites, I can change nail colours every few days, but lately, for the past 2 months, my nails have been naked 😉

I have to say that I stay away from nail polish with glitter for that very reason, it is such a pain to remove. Nice colour though. Cheers Jill
Jill Nolan: Yep, had to learn it the hard way. It’s a good thing this is such a beautiful lacquer. If it was just so-so, I wouldn’t even bother 😛

Winnie: A base coat didn’t help, but it was my bad. I should have tried the foil method earlier. The foil method worked like a charm. Would have saved my nails from a whole lot of scratches, that’s for sure 🙂
