Review: Too Faced Shadow Insurance

Now next to my nose, another very oily part of my face is, oddly enough, my eyelids. Come afternoon, and my eyelids would be oil slicks. I don’t understand why the area generates so much oil and sebum though. Eye shadows will crease on my peepers, no matter how good quality they are. One evening, I wore the NARS Habanera to a party, and 8 hours later, all the pigments slid of my lids and gathered in a thick, 1mm crease. I didn’t realise this until I went to the restroom. I had to use a tissue to remove all the eyeshadow because compared to the yucky thick crease line, I’d rather not have any eye shadow at all.

I’ve heard a lot about Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance eye primer on beauty blogs, and how it’s comparable to the uber popular Urban Decay Primer Potion (UDPP). As the latter is not available here, I decided to try out the Shadow Insurance. And honey, it was love at first sight.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance

Description:

Your full-coverage insurance policy against all fading, creasing, melting, blurring, oil-slicked and hard-to-blend eye shadow accidents. Our silicone-based eyeshadow primer transforms any eye shadow into a perfectly blendable, color-drenched, intensified version of its self, then locks it down perfectly until you take it off. Our skin soothing formula evens out the skin tone on your lids and smoothes outlines while it secures a barrier between the oils of your skin and your makeup, so no shadow catastrophes will ever happen again.

Benefits:
Vitamin E – Conditions, soothes and calms the delicate eye area.
Unique Binders – Volatiles lock down eye shadow pigments for amazingly long wear.
Tocopherol – Anti-aging, antioxidant moisturizer.
Versatility Galore – Use with powder or cream eye shadow products.
Reliable Beauty – Anti-creasing formula holds eye products in place.
Concentrated – The size of a rain drop covers the entire lid.

I’ve tried Bloom’s eye base, which didn’t work on my oil-slick peepers. I wasn’t sure if this would work either, but I just gotta try. And thank God I did, because this worked fantastically on my oily lids. It provided a very matte coverage on the eye lids, and made application of eye shadow smooth and easy. My eye shadows lasted many hours without the yucky crease lines. To me, who has had oily eye lids for so many years, it was like magic.

Sometimes I even use this WITHOUT eye shadow on. Seriously, my oily lids made it look as though I was crying at times. Yep, it’s that bad.

You only need so little of the eye primer per eye to work that magic. Blend it well on your eye lids using your ring finger (it has the least strength of all your fingers, and best to use when applying anything on the eye area. This includes eye creams as well) and let it sit for a minute or two before you apply your eye shadow. This is going to last me ages since I’d only need so little each time.

Since I’ve never tried the UDPP, I cannot tell you which one is better. But for this to work wonders on super oily eyelids with no crease at all with eye shadows, this is one heck of a product.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance is available at Kit Cosmetics counters or boutique at Myer or Chapel Street respectively. It costs AUD30. If you’re in the US, lucky you; it’s only USD17, and you can get it at Sephora.

What I like about it: Like? Dahlink, it’s LOVE. It got rid of the oilies on my eye lids and made my eye shadows creaseless. It’s beautiful, I tell you :p

What I did not like about it: Why is it bloody (almost) twice the price in Australia?! Sigh.

    Prettybeautiful:

  3. Iris

I’ve heard from friends that its really good too! I think it is a MUST HAVE:)

  4. Syen

Oh damnit Tine. Yet another item to purchase when I make that pilgrimage to Sephora one day. Someday. =P

  5. Fabu-less Beauty

I have to give that a try someday. Currently, I’m using MAC Paint as a base. I’m loving your blog layout, did you make it yourself?

    Iris:
I think the UDPP is more of a must have than this one :p But dang, this one is good.

    Syen:
Hahaha! I so know what you mean :p

    Fabu-less Beauty:
    Yep I did ๐Ÿ™‚ And thanks! ๐Ÿ˜€

I am a UDPP user, and never tried this!! BOth products are not available in PI, so …nothing to lemm about LOL

THanks for the lovely review, I would know what are the products I would like to ask my friends help me buy if they’ll be travelling to the US ๐Ÿ™‚ lol Trust me, the list goes LOooonngggg

Although I’ve heard so much about the UDPP, I won’t get one until they have a new packaging (they’re working on it). Their current one is horrible. After you’re done with it, you can actually cut the tube up and dig out 40% more of the product at the sides of the tube.

The Shadow Insurance’s packaging looks so much more appealing. I wanted to get one (Pretty, you can get it through spreers on Lowyat.net. They bring in products from Sephora and Beauty.com)but it came up to be quite expensive in RM.

I’ve ordered Loreal’s De Crease primer and I’m yet to receive it. I’ve heard good things about it. And they were quite cheap. Buy 1 Free 1.

I only recently got MAC Paint in Stilife to be used as a base and it has been working like a charm as compared to my Indelible Cream Eyeshadow.

Oh tell me about it. I’ll be going to the US (haven’t actually mentioned that on my blogs officially yet :p) in Sept, and my list of skincare and makeup items is growing every day :p Guess what’s first on my list? The UDPP :p

    Connie:
From the looks of the UDPP, to be honest, I didn’t really like the use of an applicator. I’d prefer to use my fingers. But it’s definitely something I want to get. Seeing that it’s so popular and all.

I wanted to try Loreal’s De Crease too. I was surprised it’s not even available here. Not even HIP. Ish. Dang you can get stuff like these in Lowyet.net? How and where? Yeah, I can imagine after conversion, postage and handling and all that, it’s going to be a lot more expensive than their actual price in the US.

My next purchase will be jW’s Indelible Eyeliner. Can’t wait ๐Ÿ˜‰

Same here. I hate the thought of anything that looks like you’re gonna waste a lot of the product. The Shadow Insurance looks much more practical. I probably would get it someday but in the new packaging. My friend, Carmen, did a guest review on UDPP in one of my earlier posts. It is rather amazing though. Her pigments remained vibrant and unbudged after we were completely showered with madly heavy rain.

In my coastalscents post I have a link to the lowyat.net seller of all these american products. That’s how we get our ELF as well. The member, sgdrugstore does charge a tad high for the products to be brought it but for some products, it’s really not much of a big deal. the Loreal de crease came up to 36 bucks if I’m not mistaken. for two! I’m not sure what to do with the other one.

We don’t have HiP here either. I wanted to get the HiP gel liner but it came up to about 40+. I decided to get the Indelible instead. If you want the Indelible I would suggest getting it from MAD Minerals. Theirs are cheaper. I already have 2 (Black cherry, chocolate mousse) and another (endangered) that I’m yet to collect from my friend.

    Connie:
Oh hey thanks for the link! You’re right, with the current promotion MAD minerals is running, it would be cheaper for me to get the Indelible eyeliner from MAD minerals instead of the jW Cosmetics website.

You can always do a giveaway thingy on your blog with the extra Loreal De Crease, if you don’t know what to do with the extra one. It’s a great way to bring traffic to your blog. Anyways, just a suggestion ๐Ÿ™‚

Can you imagine, ELF is only a buck in the US? Over here, it’s AUD3.95. Ish.

  12. Connie

As generous as I hope I could be, I find it hard to part with things that I’ve paid hard earned money for unless I can’t use it for some reason or don’t use it. So I most probably won’t give away my loreal de crease.

BUT, I am planning to do contests (are you a mind reader?) with prizes being the abundant products that I have but can’t actually use myself (new stuff of course). Giving it away better than have it sit in my drawer

We get out ELF for RM6.50 – RM10
