MAC Passions of Red: Intriguing Scarlet (Warm Eyes)

I haven’t bought any makeup, skincare products or toiletries in two months. Two months! And it was easy resisting the temptation to buy new makeup, because I haven’t come across anything which I really liked. Plus I kept telling myself that I’ve already bought so much makeup in the US to last me many lifetimes, so I didn’t feel the desire to get anything.

Until I saw MAC’s latest holiday collection, Passions of Red.

Damnit.

MAC Passions of Red

Now this isn’t going to sit well with MAC supporters; in fact I might get totally egged for this, but I’ve boycotted MAC makeup for years. Not that they aren’t nice, but I just never saw the hype. That would still be all right with me, if I have not faced terrible sales people in every single MAC store I’ve been to (Malaysia, US and even Australia). Almost all of the sales assistants I’ve encountered think that they’re better than everyone else just because they work at MAC. Most of them were an unfriendly lot, especially in Malaysia, when you’re not going to buy anything. And that really pissed me off for years. For that, I don’t normally enter MAC stores. I know of their latest collections and colours from beauty blogs, but that is all.

MAC Passions of Red Intriguing Scarlet Case

That aside, I know a good thing when I recognised one. I first saw the Passions of Red collection at Makeup and Beauty Blog and I was blown away by how beautiful the colours were. And the case, oh my, the case. Some people think it’s ugly, some people think it’s over-the-top, I just thought it was gorgeous.

For that, I broke that principle of mine, and went to the MAC counter at Myer, Chadstone today. And I was simply enthralled. The case itself was so chic, and the eyeshadow colours were lovely. I really liked both the Cool Eyes (Infatuating Rose) and Warm Eyes (Intriguing Scarlet) palette, but I reckon I’d use more of the warm colours, so I swiped the plastic for the Warm Eyes palette.

MAC Passions of Red Intriguing Scarlet Palette

Description:

Warm Suede – Frosty antiqued golden olive
Grand Entrance – Dirty deep green with green pearl
Real Drama – Dirty burgundy with red pearl
Gentle Heat – Light muted grey taupe
Well Spiced – Frosted warm peachy brown
Sweet Joy – Frosted creamy pale gold

And it’s pretty, so pretty 😛

The colours, especially on the right of the palette are incredibly pigmented. I can’t wait to try ’em out!

This palette didn’t come cheap at AUD85. After doing a bit of calculation to *ahem* console myself a bit, it came down to about AUD14 per eyeshadow. Prestige eyeshadows (a drugstore brand, and a excellent one at that) are sold at AUD13 per single eyeshadow. I know, I know, Prestige eyeshadows are a lot bigger, but still … I couldn’t resist. Not too bad lah, right? 😛

Has this restored my faith in MAC? A little, I guess. The sales assistant who showed me the palettes was quite nice. At least I know I’d be open to more of MAC from now on. Which is good, right? Right?

*squeals the credit card once more*

Congrats on your first MAC item in years! 😀 The palette is absolutely gorgeous!! I can’t wait to check it out in person!! Yep, the palettes are a good deal because you get them shadows at a much cheaper price!

I’m really fortunate to have a nice MA (who gives me some perks like selling me stuff before it’s launched) back home!! I really miss her! lol! 🙂

oh. my. goodness. the pomegranate in the ad!!!

i agree with you – the case is beautiful and the colors are divine.

  3. Connie

Indeed a very pretty palette. The colors look very wearable and that’s always a big plus for travel!

When I saw them on Beetrice’s blog I was completely blown away by how pretty they are too! I’m eyeing the lip palette 😀 I’m not sure if it’s out here in Malaysia yet or not… haven’t checked…

Oh BTW, the MAC assistants in MidValley Megamall are quite OK- I bought their brush cleanser and the sales assistant was nice enough to answer my questions and showed me how to use it properly. The ones at KLCC can’t be bothered about you and just leaves you to browse (I went there twice on different occasions, and on each occasion went in twice as well). Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing but I liked how they didn’t keep harassing me like how some sales assistants would. At least that’s my experience with MAC thus far.

Haha… last christmas when I was hooked and absolutely have to buy the M.A.C. Royal Assets Holiday Collection, I ended up choosing the cool palette. And I love it! Although I have to say I was enhancted by it case. And the one u showing for this year is even prettier! Gosh… no no.. kicking myself now: dun go to town, dun buy…

hey… congratz on your first MAC haul…. ^^ a great choice!!

i must say i didn’t really have good experiences with MAC MA’s…. some were really nice but some treated me like i was just a small girl who was just playing around (= couldn’t possibly afford ’em) i know i’m on a budget and i just can’t possibly pick everything i like and bring ’em to the cashier.. but at least show that you care about the customers…

i was not happy with that,, but once i put on bright eyeshadow and such,, they finally noticed me… (what the..?) *sigh*
i hope myy next trip to MAC won’t turn out a disaster.. >.< especially since i’m not planning on buying anything… just going to check out the new collections to satisfy myyself… lol

oh.. btw,, you can find CosCut over Smith Street… i posted the exact address on myy blog… it’s actually located near Table Eight.. just one-two blocks away from Nike…

  10. HomeSpaGoddess

I totally agree with you about MAC sales people. That’s what they are first, “MA” second.

wow, good thing I took a peek on your site, I guess the change of layout didn’t update me on my blog roll! But wow, this is so pretty, both the site and your posts 😀

  14. Amber

    What a pretty palette!

  15. ParisB

I guess i’m in the minority for not liking this much. I liked the red factor but the packaging and colours don’t wow me. Still, congrats on making a painless Mac purchase! 😉

  16. fabulessbeauty

I love your new page layout!

  17. Sue

The packaging looks so yummy-licious. 😀
Can’t wait til I see them myself, thanks for sharing! 😀

    Jenn:
That’s real nice of your MAC’s MA. I definitely don’t get that here, nor have I gotten any special treatment back in Malaysia. But then again, I’ve never been a fan of the brand, thus I hardly ever enter the store. Shucks 😛

    Kristy:
    Oh that one is sweeeeet!

    Connie:
I know right? Am thinking of bringing this back with me to Malaysia for Chinese New Year 😉

    Stephanie:
Do let me know when it’s in Malaysia, so that I can update the price here. Thanks!

That’s nice of the sales assistants do help you out there. I wanted to try out the fluid line, and I made it pretty clear to the sales assistant here in the city’s branch, and she didn’t even bother to show me. Just said it was very good, that was all. Ish.

    BC:
Oooooh I remembered the Royal Assets. Looking back at the old pictures, the palettes are very similar to this year’s palettes. I reckon next year’s palette would be almost the same as this year’s. I’ll probably get the cool colours on next year’s collection.

    Dea:
Thanks for letting me know about CosCut. I’ll go check it out.

Try out the MAC at Chaddy. Me no likey the ones in Bourke St.

    Syen:
Go check it out when it arrives 🙂

    Prettybeautiful:
I get that a LOT when I was Gurney Plaza (Penang)’s MAC, where the sales assistants wouldn’t even give you the time of day. I never walk in unless I absolutely have to.

    HomeSpaGoddess:
Hahaha, how right you are. Good one 😉

    Nikki:
    Thanks babes 🙂

    Eid:
I’m afraid I don’t know how much it costs in RM just yet, as it isn’t out yet at the time of writing. But when I do find out, I’ll definitely update this post on it.

    Plue:
Good. Don’t get started, or you’ll be hooked! 😛

    Amber:
    I know, right? 🙂

    Paris:
After much discussion with Geekchic, we’ve come to the conclusion that it is pretty plasticky after all. Shucks.

    Fabulessbeauty:
    Thanks!!

    Sue:
    Go go go! 😀
