Review: Simple Refreshing Facial Wash Gel

Another cheap drugstore find, which has become one of my favourite facial cleansers, is Simple’s Refreshing Facial Wash Gel.

Simple Refreshing Facial Wash Gel

Description:

Gentle cleansing prepares the way for perfect moisturising and is essential for healthy, radiant skin. Tired skin will look revived as you gently rinse away makeup, dirt and pollution wih our Refreshing Facial Wash Gel.

Active Benefits
Pro-Vitamin B5 – restores, softens and smoothes
100% Soap free – non-drying, leaves skin soft and supple
pH-Balanced – works in harmony with your skin

When my Loreal Happyderm Cleansing Mousse ran out, I thought it was time to try out a new cleanser. I looked for one with the least ingredients, and believe it or not, Simple’s got ’em.

I first heard of Simple when I was studying in the UK. Being the cheapskate student that I was (well, at least for the first couple of years. After that it was hoarding items to bring home :p), I went looking for the cheapest facial washes I could find at Superdrug, and I discovered Simple. I love their tag line then – “Not Perfumed, Not Coloured, Just Kind”. For some reason, it’s now just “No Perfume, No Colour”. Boring :p

Simple Refreshing Facial Wash Gel Ingredients

The facial cleanser was very gentle on my skin. It didn’t give me that awful squeaky-clean feeling, yet removed all traces of dirt well. It’s a little difficult removing waterproof mascara and stubborn eyeliner with it though. Still, I always recommend using an eye makeup remover first before cleansing the face, so that wasn’t a problem for me.

After cleansing, my face felt refreshed. There wasn’t any tightness in the skin, nor any tingliness. It does what it was supposed to do, no more, no less, with minimal ingredients used. And that’s the reason I like this facial wash gel. It’s suitable for all skin types, especially sensitive skin.

Simple Refreshing Facial Wash is available at most supermarkets and drugstores, for about AUD10 per tube of 150ml. If I’m not mistaken, this should also be available in Malaysia.

What I like about it: Gentle cleanser without drying my skin

What I do not like about it: Does not remove waterproof mascara and stubborn makeup well

this is an incredible timing for this post! my face was saved by Simple Face Wash recently. but I bought a different version. (well, the one for older ladies with mushroom and vitamin E… LOL)

luckily i didn’t buy this as you said it doesn’t remove WP mascara. Well, it’s not for my dry skin anyway!

    thanks for the review!

Hi Tine!!! I love cheap products that work! We don’t have a lot of them here! So goodluck for me, for the hunt! 🙂

I like it when you say it has the least ingredients 🙂

Great review Tine! 😀 I never tried Simple products before!! Does this cleanser foams up?

    Jojoba:
This one works better for oily skin, as it’s in the form of a gel, and it’s less emollient 🙂

    Nikki:
I was at the drugstore, checking one product for another, looking at the ones with the least ingredients, and this one came a winner! :p

    Jenn:
Nope, it doesn’t. It’s quite similar to Cetaphil actually. Gentle to the skin, and great for morning use. In fact, this has less ingredients than Cetaphil!

true that, simple products are really simple. although i am not a fan of fragrance in my skincare, but the fact of fragrance-free simple products actually bothers me. lol.

Hahaha, this has got to be the first time I’ve heard that Simple’s too simple to be used! 😀

I read a couple of good reviews on this from my readers too. Maybe I’ll try it next time! The ingredient list looks good to me.

Hey! Yups, it’s here in Malaysia alright. While I do like Simple products, I do not like their packaging. After a few months of use, the tube starts to crack, and then the product starts oozing out. Not good.

I don’t know if it’s just me. Although, I’m quite sure I do take good care of my products, and I don’t stress my tubes out. =P Has anyone else had this experience?

My bro bought a tube of Simple from the Men’s line many months back, and the same thing happened to his tube too. Boo.

I tried Simple Refreshing Facial Qash gel, soothing toner and moisturiser but I do not like them at all. I do not have acne but I do have some pimple here and there. It did nothing to my face. It was soft, ok but it did nothing else. Nivea pwns.

leaves too much residue, and blocks pores, caused some spots, and i thought sodium hydroxide was bad for eyes!?on the good side it left a nice base for long lasting makeup.really want to find the best cleanser, any ideas?cherioooo.

Worst product ever!!!!! I used Simple face wash for about 4 days and I had the worst reaction ever. I was oozing from boil like bumps on my face which were also extremely itchy. After realizing it was the face wash that was causing my problem I immediately made an appointment with a dermatologist. The diagnosis was that I had a “Contact Reaction” from some harsh chemical found in Simple and after a week of medications I still haven’t fully healed but I am happy to say it only seems to be a matter of time before my skin is some-what normal again. I will never recommend any of their products to anyone and if anyone ever experiences what I went through I advice them to see a dermatologist immediately!

Got to be careful folks with what you’re putting on your skin. To be honest, most of the simple products are a waste of time and you might as well just use plain water to wash your face (you’d probably be better of doing just that). ALL products have harsh chemicals in them, including Simple products. The “Vitamin goodness” that they like to advertise is just ridiculous also, I mean, why will putting pro-vitamin B5 on your face do anything? if it’s in a facial wash, it’s just being poured down the sink. The fact it’s on your skin in a moiusturing is equally worthless as it is not, and can not, be absorbed. Best way to clear skin is simple wash with plain water and eat a healthy diet. Cut the sugar and milk, cut down on alcohol and caffeine and drink lots of water.
