Announcing Sweet Contemplation Accessories

THE GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING!

I love jewellery. Who doesn’t? Shiny baubles hanging from the ears, neck, wrist and even feet – they never fail to give that instant pick-me-up to an otherwise drab outfit. A year ago I started playing around with making my own jewellery. I started off with the simplest of tools, findings and beads. As time went by, those skills improved, and I thought to myself, hey, why not try to sell them?

My first sale was actually to Geekchic. She saw some beautiful knitting row counters disguised as bracelets, and asked me if I could make her one. I did, and I’m glad she liked it. With her encouragement, I approached a few haberdasheries to see if they were interested in looking at my handmade knitting accessories. I was completely over the moon when one of them purchased all of my stitch markers. It was a sign.

I wasn’t contented on selling my pieces on a blog. Please don’t get me wrong, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having a blog shop. But I was very keen on learning more about e-commerce and how to actually set up a shopping cart system on the website, so I decided that there wasn’t a better time to pick it up. It wasn’t easy, that much I can tell you. Doing everything from scratch was a great experience, exhausting, but exhilarating all the same.

Alrighty then, I’ve talked far too much now. Without further ado, please let me welcome you to my new baby, Sweet Contemplation Accessories!

SCA Screenshot

All pieces are handmade, especially the chainmaille ones. I am a HUGE fan of chainmaille jewellery, and I think the complexity of the designs (and how rare it is found in retail shops out there) give them such an appeal.

As part of the launch, here are a couple of perks I’m offering, just for my readers.

1. From today till 16 November 09, I’d like to offer you a 15% discount on any item in store. Please note that shipping is free for Australian residents, and a flat shipping fee of AU$6 for international readers. Just enter the code LAUNCH09 in the discount box.

2. A GIVEAWAY!

a) I’ll be giving away two sets of my pieces – one set to my Australian readers, and another to my international ones.

Byzantium Bracelet

Isabella Earrings

Over here we have the Byzantium bracelet, completely handcrafted, and a pair of Isabella earrings (please click on the links to find out more about the pieces). Both incorporate the Byzantine chainmaille design, and each set is worth AU$50. Don’t worry if you do not have pierced ears; I’ll use clips instead.

HOW TO ENTER

To take part in the giveaway, simple answer these 2 questions by leaving a comment below the post:
1. Where are you from?
2. What’s your favourite piece of jewellery? No, not from my store (although you can still name one from there if you like ;)), but which piece of jewellery do you love the most? Perhaps given by a loved one? Tell us your story!

TERMS & CONDITIONS
1. This giveaway is open to ALL readers.
2. Anyone can enter regardless of whether you’ve won anything here before.
3. One comment per contestant please. Let’s give a chance to everyone, yeah?
4. If you would like to boost your chances at winning, you may do so by linking to this blog post on your blog. You don’t have to do a full-on post about it, just a link and a phrase would do the trick. Please email me with the link at sweetcontemplation[at]gmail[dot]com to let me know, and you’ll get an additional entry. I.e. 1 comment = 1 entry. 1 comment + 1 blog post = 2 entries. 1: I’m from Malaysia. 😉

2: My fav. piece of jewellery has to be my necklace that I wore (and am wearing) 24/7, 365 days a year ever since I got it. It’s simple enough to wear everywhere, yet unique because the design is from a long time ago. What makes it my favourite is that it used to belong to my grandmother, who gave it to my mother, who gave it to my older sister who gave it to me. I like to think that our <3 and care for each other will last as long as it took the diamonds on my necklace to form from humble carbon rocks.

P/S: Just FYI, my fav from your creations would be That Surreal Feeling. That shade of green is just gorgeous, and so is the design. <3!

    P/P/S: RTed. 🙂

  2. Ellen Sue

    1) I’m from MALAYSIA
    2) my favorite piece of jewelery is a pair of dolphin earrings, its not the best piece of earrings i have, but its my favorite one – for a very personal reason…

I saw it one day at a stall with a guy that i had a crush on, but it cost more than AUD20, so I didn’t get it..

After that that guy said that he had to go to the toilet, and he came back with that pair of earrings, I was sooo touched ~! He’s my current boyfriend, and we’ve been together for 4 years

  3. Elizabeth

    1) From Washington, DC
    2) My pearl earrings/necklace set I got for my 16th birthday. I wear them practically every day, especially to work.

  4. Jenn

Congrats girl!! I feel so excited and happy for you!! 😀 I’ll join to support you! hehehe!! 😀

    1. I’m from Malaysia
    2. My favourite piece of jewelery is the necklace i’m always wearing, given by my husband (boyfriend then) for my 21st birthday. It’s custom made, and knowing although he wasn’t earning alot at that time but he went through the trouble to get that for me anyways made it even more precious to me! 😀

  5. Carol L

Hi I’m Carol from the US. My favorite pieces of jewelery is from my mother. It is a heart shaped necklace with the chinese characters prosperity & health. I wear it all the time and actually do not take it off. The second is my green jade bangle that I do not take off either. Couldn’t decide. I love them both just the same.

  6. Cynthia

    1. I’m from Malaysia!!
    2. My favourite piece of jewelery is the a simple necklace from my closest friend in university. It is a four-clover-leaves necklace which said bring luck, health, wealth and love. The reason why she got it for me is because I was having a bad downfall and breakouts throughout the whole semester although she was there whenever I need her. It mean a lot to me as it shows how lucky I am to have a friend like this. 🙂

  7. Kristine Tang

    1. I’m from Malaysia
    2. My favourite piece of jewellery is the platinum necklace my boyfriend gave to me as a surprise for my birthday 3 years ago. He had already given me another gift but scared it wasn’t ‘romantic’ enough. After some nagging from my girlfriend, he secretly went with her to choose a necklace with a lovely pendant for me and gave it to me later that night. One day I accidentally tugged it and one of the chain’s link broke. Got it to the jewellery store to fix it but they didn’t do a good job and almost lost it again in the train. Felt that it would be a waste to just keep it in my jewellery box, so I took my soldering kit (I’m an engineering student..haha) and kinda did a minor fix in the joint that broke off. To my surprise, not only is the damaged area not very visible, but the chain never fell off again. Now I can gladly wear the necklace when I go out without (too much) worry again 😀

  8. geekchic

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I’m so proud of you for doing this so beautifully! *sniff* No wonder nowadays hardly talk to me la, cos busy with this! *sniff* Well done, well done, well done!

    1. I’m going to say I’m from Australia because I feel like I belong here and I’ve been here all my life. (Melbourne, because despite an airhead for a premier, we have the most wonderful sights and sounds in the world)

    2. My favourite piece of jewelry is my engagement ring from Jen. I wear it together with my wedding ring and it’s that one piece of jewelry I would not step out of the house without. You’ve heard my engagement story, that’s why it’s so special to me 🙂

  9. Eli

Congrats! I just checked out your shop and am head over heels in love with the Byzantine bracelet.

Psst. Kahani is going to go ape shit over the dragonfly piece. 😉

  10. Lanovia

    1. I’m Lanovia from Jakarta, Indonesia
    2. My fave of jewellery is, of course, my wedding ring-a simple ring with one very simple diamond 🙂 Nothing compare to the ring and I really hope that me & the husband can wear it ’till death do us part (oh oh I become so sentimental, sorry..) I like your new website and That Surreal Feeling-Bracelet is sooooooo gorgeous! Keep up the good work. One more thing, I also one of the follower of your blog: Oh For The Love Of Me 🙂

  11. kahani

OMG woman you opened an accessory store! SO AWESOME!! I have a necklace that exactly matches that dragonfly bracelet… but the bracelet is in silver! Can you get another dragonfly? Can i get it as a necklace pleaaaseee… (will continue begging in private)

    okok

    2. My favourite piece of jewellery is without a doubt my travel charm bracelet, which coincidentally enough I blogged about here! =P http://frockingaround.blogspot.com/2009/10/charmed-by-travel.html

  12. hateedu

    1. I’m from Sydney, Australia.

    2. My favourite piece of jewellery is this pair of earrings I bought from a random shop in KL. Its made of some kind of crystal thing which changes colour depending on the angle it catches the light. I wear it all the time and matches anything I wear. I almost nearly lost it not once but TWICE!

  13. Samsam

    1. I’m originally from Malaysia and am staying in Australian now.

    2. My favourite piece of jewellery is a plain sliver necklace which was my 21st birthday present from my mommy. She told me that even if the necklace is plain and dull witohout any designs I still can use my brain and match it with different kinds of pendants according to the occasions I attend. She also told me that while everyone is dying to be different, being ordinary makes me stand out more. This necklace means lots to me. = ]

  14. Jessie

    1. I’m from Malaysia.

    2. My favourite pair of jewelry is a pair of simple 6-pronged white gold diamond studs that my mother made for me. I am wearing it now and very reluctant to change to other earrings, though I have many beautiful dangly and non-dangly ones 🙂

  15. akisalove

I am from North Carolina, USA.

My favorite piece of jewelry is my mother’s silver charm bracelet that she gave me
when I was eleven yrs. old. It has so many sentimental charms that have been added
    throughout the years!

  20. Jessica

    1. I am from good ol’ Malaysia.

    2. The one piece of jewelery that I can’t live without is my silver ring from Perlini’s. While its no extravagant ring, its value is far greater as it is a promise ring (hmm, is there such a word?) from my other half on Valentine’s Day with him down on one knee and asking me would I remain as his beloved…I can’t step out anywhere without wearing it on my finger!

  21. Tam

    I’m from the UK!

  25. Salima

I am from the US. My favorite piece of jewelry has to be my grandmothers wedding ring. When I was young, I would stay at her house and right before bed she would wash her face and put on her moisturizer and she would hand me her ring to hold. So after she passed away, I was able to get her ring. I wear it on a necklace all the time.

  26. Jas Min

    1) From Malaysia.

    2) Favourite piece of jewelry would have to be the 2nd ring my boyfriend of many years gave me. Why the 2nd and not the first? That’s because the first one was made of silver and gave me rashes everytime I wore it. Because of that he felt so guilty, he quietly went to buy me a proper white gold ring. I still treasure it till today.

  27. Elena

I’m from the US, but living in England right now. My favorite pair of earrings is from my old college roommate. He made them for me with two of my favorite colors and I get complemented on them all the time. I’ve even bought outfits to go with them! Haha.

    2. My Favourite piece of jewellery is my necklace. It is a simple platinum chain with a pearl pendant. The necklace was given by my mom as a present for obtaining 1st in school. It is also my first platinum piece and i really treasure it. The pearl pendant is supposed to bring some good meaning to my life, but i forgotten what it is. I never took the necklace off. I dont say im proud of it, but I feel like it is a part of me. The only time I took it for operation, I want to wear it back the moment I am able. My necklace does not come with a hefty price tag, but it signifies my mother;s love for me. To me, that it the most expensive and unique price tag ever.

We had been having a hard time with our relationship, and he found this necklace from a company who is eco friendly, uses recycled metals, etc. I knew he had spent alot of time searching for a company that would meet my requirements and then to find a necklace with a peace sign (which I collect) proved to me he was serious about doing what needed to be done to keep our marriage intake. I wear it everyday.

  83. Nicolette

    Hi, I’m Nicolette! 🙂

    I’m from Singapore!

My favourite piece of jewellery would be a customised necklace for my birthday . We’re both still students, and he’s not very well off. I heard from his friends that he actually skipped lunches to buy me the necklace, but he told me that he got it cheap from a blogshop, so it was quite touching. It’s silver, and the design is simple, and it is customised with my name and the design represents two intertwining lives, which is really unusual. We’ve been together for 2 years, but he got me this necklace when we were only 5 months into the relationship 🙂 Wear it very often <3

Where am I from? Good question. I was born in Canada from Cameroonian parents and now live in Germany. Choose your answer 🙂
My favorite piece of jewelry is an earrings I have from my mom, from back when I was a kind. Well it was actually a pair of earrings but I lost one. I wear the other one always and wear “regular” pair of earrings “on top”. It’s a tiny very tine golden hoop. That way my mom is with me all the time.

Well, I’m from Indonesia, but I currently live in Australia.

My favorite jewelry is my black diamond studded star necklace. It’s very cheap but I found it very flattering and makes my outfit stands out. However, I’ve recently ordered these gorgeous rings on Etsy:

    1. Hi ! I’m from KL, Malaysia.
    2. Has to be my wedding ring. My husband put in lots of effort in looking for the right stone and he designed the ring himself. (Nothing outstanding, but touched by his sincerity.) He then arranged for a getaway at Langkawi and proposed to me there. 🙂

I am from Michigan. The mitten state.
My favorite piece of jewelry is a necklace that my mother got me from a War Reenactment that we went to when I was younger, it’s a crocheted pouch with a stone in it and I absolutely love it.

    2. My favourite piece of jewellery is a small silver locket that opens to let you place two small portraits in. My dad got me that when I was small about 9 and it’s a bit of memorabilia of my childhood and how much my dad loved me. Sadly, I lost it several years later, my dad bought me another one but it wasn’t as petite and it was never the same. Nothing could ever replace that original one I had. Just thinking of it reminds me of my beloved father and the good old days

PS. love the jewellery on your site esp. the “shoot for the stars” bracelet, such positive vibes =D hmm so is only paypal allowed or can aussie buyers do direct bank deposits?

    2. My story is of the jade pendant my dad gave me when i was about 10 or younger(it’s been so long I can’t remember). Comes on a strand of black twisted string. I wear it everywhere and only take it off for important functions that need more “proper” accessories.

I love your pieces! All the best!

    2. I’m going to say one of your pieces. The Circle of Dreams really caught my fancy due to its antique style yet it could also be worn differently to project a modern look. Two ways to dress up one piece! How lovely!

Real nice stuff. I wish you good luck with your store.

  114. Joyce

Good day to all! This is Joyce from Malaysia.

My favourite jewellery is ALL my charm bracelets. My mum promised to get me a charm bracelet when I was younger but never did due to financial circumstances.
So when I grew up, I just went berserk and got myself a few with different themes.
My favourite is the “I’m a Woman” bracelet which I chose 5 important charms: a diamond ring (forever), Cinderella’s slippers (fairytale), a crucifix (God), a terrier (pets) and a couple (relationship).

To me, those are important aspects to a woman!

  115. Ida

  117. Michelle Free

    I am from Melbourne, Australia.
My favourite piece of jewellery is: my mum’s wedding ring. I never go anywhere without wearing it, even though I have my own rings.
This is my favourite piece of jewellery because I feel closer to my mum when wearing it as she was wearing it when she died, and she never took it off.
She died 10 days after my husband did, and to this day I miss her more than words can say. I talk to her every day and look at her favourite photo, which is one of her and myself that she had with her when she died.
We had a falling out many years before because of my dad, who is also deceased, and thanks to some family members, we never had the chance or opportunity to make amends. I would so dearly have loved to bridge the gap with her but sadly she died before I could do that.

  118. Michelle Free

ps: I neglected to mention how much I like and enjoy seeing the jewellery you make too, as I can only imagine how much time it would take you to make each piece. thanks 🙂

My favourite jewellery has to be the face figure sun necklace. It was given to me as a birthday present many years ago by my extended family. I am still keeping it with me all the time eventhough it was damaged a few years ago. It is still a very significant gift to me.

My favorite peice of jewelry (this is a no-brainer!) is my wedding band! : )
It is not about the metal or the design, but rather the emotional feeling I have when I wear it. I am so blessed to have my husband in my life and when I wear my ring, I feel blessed!
