Happy 6th Birthday, Beautyholics Anonymous. Cake For Me, A Giveaway For You!

THE GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING!

Happy 6th Birthday, Beautyholics Anonymous. Cake For Me, A Giveaway For You!

Do you know that it took me over a week to come up with the name Beautyholics Anonymous? This wasn’t what this blog was originally going to be called. The first name I came up with was – and I cannot believe I’m telling you this because so far, only Paris B knows – Essence of Woman.

Sounds quite cringe-worthy now but at that time, it was the only thing I could come up with. It sure was difficult coming up with a name for a beauty blog. Still, Essence of Woman sounded a bit like, er, woman juice, so I tossed the idea pretty soon after. Then I thought, what am I? I love skincare. I love makeup. I love talking all things beauty. Heck, if there’s a word for it, I’m a beautyholic!

Thus, Beautyholics Anonymous was born.

This was 6 years ago. What could have been woman juice is now my baby and my brand. It turned into something so much more to me than just a beauty blog. I can’t even begin to tell you how much the blog has grown and it wouldn’t have if not for you, dear readers. You make me want to push myself out of my comfort zone. Your presence and support encourage me to want to do more. I’m so thankful for you.

As Beautyholics Anonymous celebrates her 6th birthday today, what better way to celebrate this momentous occasion with a slice of cake (but of course. It’s not a birthday celebration without cake) and a giveaway for you! One lucky reader will be able to win the following prizes, which are sponsored by yours truly.

Happy 6th Birthday, Beautyholics Anonymous. Cake For Me, A Giveaway For You!

Happy 6th Birthday, Beautyholics Anonymous. Cake For Me, A Giveaway For You!

On this special occasion, I’d love to share some of my favourite beauty products with you. You know I love my balls. Ditto for blush. Serums from Cosmetic Skin Solutions have never failed me. The Tarocco Orange hand cream just smells like you’d want to eat your hands. The Clinique lippie is so creamy and beautiful, you just have to try it out. The Laneige water sleeping pack is somewhat of a cult item in the Asian beauty market. Sunday Riley is new to us in Australia so why not give it a go? As for the book, I have one on Kindle, enjoyed the inside stories of a famous magazine and thought you might like to read it too. And it’s all for one lucky reader!

(Ok it's not your birthday, but you get what I mean)

I absolutely love your blog name, when I first discovered it I remember thinking, gosh, this has to be the best and most clever beauty blog name I'd ever seen. I was so jealous 😉

Congrats on everything you've achieved and thank you for putting so much into BA so we can have this amazing site! Xx

First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BA!!!!!!! What a milestone. 6 years! I’ve been following for nearly 2 I think, so thats a helluva lot of blogging I’ve missed! And that’s a helluva prize pack.. <3

I think one of the main things I love about coming here is the advice. I LOVE Bloggie Wednesdays – they've helped me so much, with so many great tips. Blogging can get confusing, so it's great to have a little help every now and then. Of course, I come for the makeup – I'm not going to lie, ha ha! xx

Happy burfday to your blog, and you (coming soon!)

To be frank, I am not a full time blogger, I don’t run a nice blog, and I definitely do not have that much of passion on beauty blogging as you do. However, pls believe me that, Beautyholic Anonymous is the first beauty blog that I read and follow on regular basis (since 3 yrs ago!)

I love how you manage this blog professionally, with proper photos and useful information/review. And your ‘list of lust’ series always kill me!

Keep up the good work and, give me the presents! ^^

Yay! *blows party horn* I’m usually a lurker here more than a post-er, but I thought I’d come out of my shell to wish Beautyholics Anonymous a very very very happy 6th birthday!

My week has been super amazing, I’ve been looking for work for about 4 months now with no success, which as I’m sure you can imagine has been really hard both financially and emotionally.

But! Earlier this week I applied for a job with an amazing amazing beauty retailer, and while I didn’t get the job, they’re having me on for some paid work!!! I haven’t been so excited in ages! They people I’ve met from the company so far have been absolutely lovely and I really think I’ll love working there!

Hopefully some of my recent good fortune will rub off on everyone else here 🙂

  13. Aislin M

Happy birthday to Beautyholics Anonymous! And to you for the 5th of June 🙂
This blog is truly fantastic and a huge inspiration to me, I’m honestly such a huge fan. I’ve gotta say I commend your choice of blog name, ‘Essence of Woman’ definitely doesn’t have the same ring to it, hahah
This is such a wonderful giveaway, thank you so much and I hope you have a fabulous day 🙂

  14. Annamaria

Congratulations on 6 years of blogging, and happy birthday for the 5th! Beautyholics Anonymous is a great name because when people get into beauty as a hobby, they don’t just like it – they love it obsessively, and the name captures that.

    Dear Beautyholics Anonymous,

We first met when I was reading up on Konyakku sponges a few months ago. I bought one but wasn’t sure how it works. Your review was fantastic… but you really had me at “very toing-toing”. Most apt description ever! Informative, elegant yet down to earth and your sense of humour is right up my alley – it was love at first sight.

Don’t know about you but I’d be hesitant about reading a sponge review from “Essence of Woman”! LOL! At the moment, I feel like a closet beauty enthusiast who’s slowly coming out from her shell so that’s why I really like your name – it spoke to me. Now, if only my mom would think twice about naming her daughter after a feeble female character from Rocky… >_<

For many years, I have created excuses to not take care of my skin e.g. still young, only for girly girls, I'm an engineer I don't need to look good, these pimples will miraculously disappear when I reach adulthood anyways etc. I hit 25 and my skin showed no signs of improvement.. I realised I had to do something. It begun with the Konyakku sponge purchase, then you inspired me to use physical sunscreen and have quite successfully twisted my arm into getting the Lancome Genefique. Though far from flawless, my skin looks better now than it had been for over a decade.

Thanks for everything so far and happy 6th birthday, Beautyholics Anonymous 🙂

P/S: Keep up the good work, Christine!

  21. Rachel

I just want to thank you for all the knowledge I gained from your blog.I used to know nothing about skincare and makeup.I just go and buy anything from a trusted brand. The thing is its not the brand that matters its your skin.Your blog teached me a lot about the good and bad products. In the process,I saved a lot of money by not wasting on products that doesn’t work and I have spent hundreds on these useless products.I truly appreciate everything you shared..blogging can change lives! thank you again! 🙂

  26. Melanie

Well, I don’t know how well I do for the “creative” type, but I’ll give a good go, eh? (<–NO, I'm not Canadian. I just happen to say "eh" all the time!) Honestly, my day has been quite boring since I just spent the last 10 hours in a car. But it wasn't ALL boring since I also spent 10 hours listening to some great classics, like Billy Joel, the Eagles, the Beatles, etc. So, all in all, I suppose it wasn't so bad. 🙂

Happy birthday Beautyholics Anonymous and congratulations on this wonderful achievement of having a blog for 6 years. I discovered your blog via Paris B’s blog and have not looked back since. Do keep up the wonderful and cheery feeling of this blog as I have lost count of the many times that your writing has never failed to put a smile on my face 🙂

I had a great weekend where I watched 2 wonderful movies – Iron Man 3 and The Great Gatsby. The latter really made an impact on me as I kept thinking of how careless and selfish Daisy Buchanan could be with the love Jay Gatsby had for her. He sacrificed everything for her and at the end of the day, all she cared about was money, status and security. Although the movie was set in the 1920s, it mirrors the excess that is visible in society today.

Other than that, I brought my mum to Lake Gardens yesterday to purchase her favourite orchids. Although she did not purchase many pots, her new neighbor a few doors away from her (she lives in a flat) came running to her house to ask her where she made her purchase. She had a good time exchanging stories with this lady as the both of them happened to be orchid lovers. Her story certainly made me laugh and I was glad to have been part of making that story happen.

A big happy birthday to your blog, what an accomplishment! This website keeps me informed about beauty related things so yes it has helped me out a lot and I like how original your topic posts are. One of my favorite posts has been the one about the great ingredients for skin care products. See long time ago I was never really into beauty products until I noticed how much of a difference it made to my skin. In the past I use to wake up with the worst under eye circles and dry skin that flaked during the day. But now I’ve become addicted and I love how you share personal things like things you regret doing because its something that we all can learn about and see what and what is not worth investing in.

    Dance to your favourite music
    And
    Yay for everything!

    Well happy almost birthday dear!!
I would just like to say that I love your header of “beauty comes in all sizes. not just size 2.”
Honestly that sits dear to my heart, because I often struggle with the whole concept surrounding that thought process. Women are just so hard on themselves, thinking they have to be stick thin, when in fact, it isn’t really attractive; heck guys even will agree there!! Just thank you for your blog, I love being able to read about a fellow beauty addict ;P
    Thank you Tine! 🙂

Happy Birthday! I can’t believe that your blog is already 6 years old. I love your blog and I read it every day, well except weekends :). Many happy returns and keep up the good work!

Here’s what happened to me during my recent trip to Manila.

I was getting ready to leave Manila on a 0600 hours flight. I had used up most of my pesos during my stay in Manila and only had 500 pesos with me. I was not informed that passengers leaving from Terminal 2 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport had to pay a terminal tax of 550 pesos. It was 0430 hours in the morning and I was frantically looking for a place to change US$ into Pesos. None of the banks were open in this ungodly hour. And the tax couldn’t be paid in any other currency except for Philippine Pesos. Where could I find 50 pesos so I could catch my plane on time? Suddenly a lady who was standing behind me called out to me. She took out a 50 peso note and handed it to me. I was so surprised! I did not ask her for the money but I supposed she must have seen my predicament. My faith in humanity was restored!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY >.<

I've been going to bunnings to try and look for the right colour for my room and I've also been looking at a few stuff to decorate my room with 🙂 like fairy lights 😀 or maybe a fancy shelf :/

I’m actually feeling rather worried about my coming business trip to Germany. My schedule flight is in a day’s time, and I still have not packed my stuff! I’ve also just got to know that all my other colleagues are staying in the hotel near the Germany office, except me 🙁 Besides, I do not have driving license so need to take public transport, and it’s my first time there!

In this time of “unknown” factors, it’s great to take part in some giveaway promotion in the hope to win something nice to cheer myself up…

Albeit belated, Happy happy Birthday to you and Beautyholics Anonymouse nonetheless. 6 years is a lot of hardwork, dedication among other things that you have put into this baby. Though I don’t know you personally, but interacting with you via this blog has been awesome, nostalgic and wonderful. So I imagined this is like my second year knowing you since I discovered your blog…if this blog milestone was also our celebration of friendship, sisterhood and beauty network, my personal wish to you would be Stay Beautiful, Stay Chic, Keep Writing, Keep Sharing. I look forward to many more of beautiful years with you. Congratulations again Tine, well done, keep it up! Pada pa pa paaa, I’m lovin it <3

    I have a little cupboard,
that I now wish had a key,
filled with treasures just for me.
All the beuaty products I adore,
from MAC to Chanel and Christian Dior.
With skin care, makeup, frangrance galore,
I love to treat myself that’s for sure!
But this is a story of earlier today,
involving my two year old gone astray.
I left her alone so I could wash,
got out of the shower – and ohh my gosh.
My Christian Dior lipstick was no more,
it was used to draw on the wall.
    Chanel No.5 I could smell,
the bottle was empty – just a shell.
For she had sprayed it into a bowl,
to bath her doll – bless her soul……
My blood was boiling, but it doesn’t end there,
I go to the loungeroom, and more despair.
A white leather lounge suite with red nail polish,
my daughter thinks she’s quite accomplished!!
This certainly has taught me a lesson,
don’t leave two year old’s alone for a second!!
Cleaning and scrubbing will comprise the rest of my day,
after I LOCK my remaining treasures away!

Congratulations on quite a milestone in blogging! I stumbled onto your blog a couple of years ago by accident. Since then it’s been my staple of what’s going in the beauty industry. NZ do not have many beauty products and we are way behind in trends. So I live vicariously through you, being a beauty products lovely myself. I lost a best friend a couple of months ago and I realized our time on earth is truly short. Buy that blush if you can afford to, wear that dress that you’ve always wanted and never ever take anyone you live for granted. Money can always be earned again but you will never able to claim back yesterday. So here’s to 25 years to your blog!

Happy Almost birthday to you Tine! I love your blog for not only the easy to read reviews with great pics but the technical help too! I’m trying to grow my blog and expand, and the technical aspect is so frustrating to me. I’m also loving the media kit e-book. Keep up the great work and thanks for all you do! xo Amber

Happy birthday! I just had my birthday 4 days ago too. 🙂

I have only left one comment so far in your blog, and that is to let you know how much your blog has encouraged me. When I found out that you’re a fellow Malaysian, in one day I managed to go through 100’s of your blog posts to read more about your journey, and of course to get more tips on different skin care/make up products for someone that is not familiar with the Australia product market at all! So happen we have the same skin tone, same skin type and same oily lids (sigh), you don’t know how much my purchasing choices are influenced by you!

I did an undergrad that is in an all-male environment, I’m now working in an all-male company, sometimes I wish that I have more girly friends that I can talk to about skin care make up manicure etc. Would you like to meet up for a coffee and have a girly chat with me some time? 😀

    Happy birthday!
So I am currently cooking right now..following a recipe. Unfortunately, I substituted tomato sauce with pasta sauce so its kinda looking like..ahmm pasta sauce instead of a proper stew LOL Nonetheless, I shall look forward to looking at hubby’s face when he tastes my magic concoction LOL

First up: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BA! 😀
    Followed by: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TINE!

June is such a great month, imho. I just celebrated my birthday 2 days ago and my gosh, the amount of fun I had..! Was never at home long enough to warm the couch up.

And it’s your blog birthday! How exciting for you and for the readers everywhere. You’ve brought us on a journey and keeping us close though we are all far apart. I was a very silent reader of your blog and decided to just bite the bullet and start writing stuff in. Why? Well, I was shy and very mindful of what people think of me (in this case, my writing). I do enjoy your posts and might I add, they brighten my day!

I love the comical sense that you inject into your posts and your photographs have enticed me to no end. I find myself running out to the store to see the particular makeup item and even look up on the product. Whenever I go to Australia, your blog is the one I refer to and I’d stock up on tonnes of makeup (I once spent AUD150 in Priceline… and then some more elsewhere)

Keep on doing whatcha doing here, it’s magic and I for one would love to stay on for more 😉 Happy blog-a-ver-sary!
