Rimmel Lasting Finish with Comfort Serum Skin Perfecting Full Coverage Foundation: Gee, This Seems Awfully Familiar!

Rimmel Lasting Finish with Comfort Serum Skin Perfecting Full Coverage Foundation

I may not be the biggest fan of Rimmel’s eyeshadows or lipsticks but when it comes to foundations, they’ve nailed it big time. I’ve tried all of their foundations and while I’m not terribly keen on their matte foundation, the rest are ace. When I saw that they’ve come up with a new long-lasting and full coverage foundation, I knew I had to give it a go. Thankfully Chemist Warehouse was having a new launch promo with a good discount on the Lasting Finish foundations and I decided to pick up the one with Comfort Serum.

To be honest, I didn’t know that the foundation came in two types, the one with the Comfort Serum and the one that didn’t. It was only later that I found out that the Lasting Finish foundation also came in a Nude version, presumably one with a lower amount of coverage since the one with the Comfort Serum offered full coverage.

I’ll be making brief comparisons of the Lasting Finish with Comfort Serum foundation to two other very good foundations from Rimmel, and that’s the Match Perfection and Wake Me Up. This foundation is actually very similar to the Match Perfection foundation, which makes me wonder, is the Lasting Finish foundation necessary?

In terms of texture and consistency, the Lasting Finish foundation is very slightly richer than the Match Perfection but not as thick as the Wake Me Up. In fact, I could barely tell the difference between the Lasting Finish and the Match Perfection in terms of texture and consistency as the differences are so subtle. The Lasting Finish has a semi-matte finish whereas the Match Perfection has a satin, sheeny finish. Both blends very well onto the skin without leaving drag marks or streaks that need to be buffed with a buffing brush or makeup sponge.

I picked up the shade of the same name to the Match Perfection, and that’s #200 Soft Beige. Both have warm yellow undertones. They’re both exact shade matches to each other. The Lasting Finish has SPF 20 and the Match Perfection SPF 18 (again, hardly any difference there).

Now the selling point of the Lasting Finish with Comfort Serum foundation is that it is able to last on the skin for many hours and that it offers full coverage. Of course, you and I know that the 25 hour claims thing is pretty much bullshit so I’m not even going to try wearing this for full 25 hours. Having said that, the most I’ve had this on for was 14 hours and at the end of 14 hours, it still looks very good on my skin. The foundation barely faded on my skin; in fact, the longer you have this on, the better it looks on the skin.

I usually talk about coverage early in a review but now’s a good time as any. I don’t know about you but this definitely isn’t a full coverage foundation for me. I’ve had really good full-coverage foundations cover every single blemish on my skin but this doesn’t. Having said that, it does give at the very least, a medium coverage and is buildable to higher coverage if needed but I don’t really recommend it unless you buff it in with a buffing brush or blend it out well with a makeup sponge as too many layers tend to make the skin look cakey especially on the creases around the nose.

The thing is, I find this foundation incredibly similar to the Match Perfection. Other than the slight difference in finish, they look the same on the skin even after the same number of hours worn. I adore the Match Perfection foundation and the Lasting Finish with Comfort Serum gave me the same results as well.

Is the Lasting Finish foundation necessary? At the end of the day, it depends on the type of finish you’re after. If you’re looking for something that gives a slight sheen and glow to the skin, go for the Match Perfection. If you’re looking for a matte foundation that doesn’t look cakey on the skin (unlike the thick ultra-matte foundations), go for the Lasting Finish. Personally, I find that both foundations are equally good and I highly recommend trying either one out.

Rimmel’s Lasting Finish with Comfort Serum Skin Perfecting Full Coverage foundation comes in 7 shades, retails at AU$17.95 for 30ml and is available at leading pharmacies and supermarkets nationwide.

What I like about it: Very similar to my favourite Match Perfection foundation, good lasting power with barely any fading after 14 hours, skin looks great with this foundation on.

What I do not like about it: It’s not full coverage as described. Coverage is decent nevertheless and you’ll get at least a medium. 25 hours wear? Really? Are we still meant to believe that?

Have you tried the Lasting Finish foundation? What about the one that isn’t the Comfort Serum? If you’ve tried this and the Match Perfection foundation, did you notice any difference between the two?

Haven’t tried Rimmel foundations, but the soft beige looks quite warm, which I like .. often the “beige” in foundation has some odd gray cast to it. I may have to give Rimmel foundation a try.

Rimmel foundations are pretty impressive, especially for the price. Their Match Perfection is really good and this new Lasting Finish one doesn’t disappoint either. Do give it a go if you can. 🙂

This is my current fave! Though I mix it with a little bit of moisturiser to thin it out.

Not many drugstore brands offer fair shades here in Spain (for example, Bourjois starts with the 52 or 53). I love that Rimmel does and the 100 Ivory in this range suits me perfectly!

As much as I love Bourjois foundations, I find their shade selection terribly limited. ‘Tis a pity because this means a lot of people can’t try them out. Rimmel does have Ivory, which is really good. Would even be better if they have much darker ones as well!

I brought this from Chemist Warehouse the other week in Light Porcelain for about $9 on sale, and I’d have to say, it is pretty good! Although I haven’t tested it for more than 12 hours, it still looks like I’ve only just put it on, even if I’m in full sun and sweating the whole day, and that’s hard to come by for me as most other foundations only last about 4 hours on me! I also have the Match Perfection foundation in the same colour, but to me, it doesn’t compare to Lasting Finish.
The only thing I do not like about this, as you’ve said, is that it is not a full coverage foundation like it claims, I would class it as a medium coverage because you still need a bit of concealer for those pesky pimples and scars, but it is buildable so it really depends on how much you use.
I would recommend this foundation to anyone as it is a wonderful foundation if you’re either in a rush to get out the door and you can’t be fluffed with your whole makeup routine, or you simply want a medium to full coverage foundation for a fraction of the cost that doesn’t skimp out on the quality!!

Definitely agree with you, Kelley. Not a full coverage foundation at all despite its claims. Having said that, it’s a very decent foundation and like you said, something that doesn’t skimp out on quality. 🙂
