My Makeup Collection

Note: This is a picture-heavy entry. Click on the pictures to enlarge.

Inspired by Geekchic to do this post, I’ve finally taken pictures of my entire makeup collection and posted them here. My current makeup collection you see here is half of the actual amount of makeup that I own; the rest are still in Malaysia, which I couldn’t bring with me due to baggage space and weight restrictions. Note that this was a draft I came up with a couple of weeks ago. As a makeup addict, there have been new additions to the “family” since then.

My makeup collection is very mismatched. I do not have the latest collections of anything, nor are they expensive. I don’t buy makeup from just one or two well-known brands as I love to try anything and everything.

Most of my makeup are of drugstore brands, because I don’t believe in spending much on a single makeup item (the money is spent on skincare, which, in my opinion, is far more important than makeup). This is with the exception of foundation and primers; these are barriers that protect the skin from makeup, so I’d prefer to spend more on better quality ones. Having said that, there are a lot of gems in drugstore and cheaper brands for these too.

“Huh? She calls herself a beauty blogger? Look at all the cheap stuff she uses!”

Bear in mind that I’m not even close to what Paris, Geekchic, Jojoba or other beauty bloggers out there have, so don’t be disappointed when you see my humble collection. I’m just a girl who likes my makeup :)

Dressing Table

This is my dressing table. Nothing fancy, no mirrors (no need for one, as our built-in wardrobe has a mirror which is from ceiling to floor), just a chest of drawers from IKEA. I’ll be doing a post on the skincare products I use in the near future. For now, we’ll stick to the makeup.

Current Makeup Stash

This is where I keep my makeup. I don’t keep them in a train case simply because I don’t have one. Have been itching to get one for a very long time now. It’s a pity that train cases are so expensive. For now, I keep my makeup in small plastic drawers for the ones I use regularly, drawstring bag and makeup bag for those which I seldom use. The drawstring bag was actually a lunch bag used to store lunch boxes which I bought in Japan. The makeup bag was a freebie from Kanebo.

So there ya go, that’s my current makeup collection. Not very impressive as you can tell. But I’m pretty proud of it. I shall be updating this from time to time when I do a review of any of the above makeup items. And also maybe a part II, when I build the collection up.

This isn’t a tag, but I’d love to know what your makeup collection is like. Go on, take some photos of your makeup and share, share, share! :)

*These makeup items are courtesy of the lovely Paris B :)

Wow, you know what? I hear you! You don’t have to have all the make up products and high end products to be a beauty blogger! You have to love beauty blogging and understand what works and does not work for you! :) I love your collection! It’s neat and everything is just CLEAN!!! I love it!!!! thanks for sharing :D

A beauty blogger is about finding beauty stuff that work for you, not just high end! And a true beauty blogger will love both high AND low end makeup :D Excellent collection girl and expect it to grow soon! :D

Wow, I would love to have a collection like yours!! Would love to hear more! How about lotions and potions and skincare? Would love to hear your take on that.

You have more cosmetics than me!

Reply

geekchic May 27, 2008 at 2:16 am

It’s gorgeous! I need to find a way to store this properly ><

Like what everyone said, it’s nto about having high end stuff. It’s about having fun and having the stuff which works for you. Makes no sense if you have everything expensive and you use only 1/10th of it =)

why no reviews on benefit dandelion and georgia??

I can never find any good swatches of these. Just loads of “they’re the best!” with no proof what so ever.

Tine, this is an excellent post! Really interesting :) I was thinking that this would be a good idea for a post for my blog, then I looked over at my makeup collection, and I hardly have anything! Hahaha… But I think with all the new Summer collections coming out, that might change ;)

How long have you been ‘collecting’ makeup for? You have so much!

Whoa dude…..whoa. I’m impressed. That’s a lot of makeup. I’m thinking of doing the same but I have so little. I have more bras than makeup coz I like bras, they’re purdy.

Writing a post about my bra colletcion and putting pics up is juts pushing it right? =p

Askmewhats:
Aww thanks. Err it’s clean? I never realised it. I thought everything was a mess because I don’t have a ‘basket’ to put all the ‘eggs’ in ;p

Paris:
*blush* Hail the queen! :P Thanks for the compliments. Yep, my makeup is definitely in the low-end range, and I love it!

Anonymous:
Hi there, thanks! As for the lotions and potions, I’m on it!

Meehoon:
Oooopsie :p

Jessie:
Done, just for you ;)

Cheeeezie:
Girl, you have better stuff than I do. Maybe I should come over and play with your collection instead ;)

Syen:
Oooh isn’t that just fab? Cheap and good, that’s the way I like it :p

Beauty Fool:
Go go go, take photos of your collection. I’d love to see it!

The collection you see here was collected since about 3 years ago. I’ve been buying more ever since I came to Australia actually *sheepish grin*.

Constant Drama:
What’s wrong with displaying your bras? Okay what :P

Yummy411:
Hey thanks! How about you doing one too? I so want to see your collection! :P

Raising Mercury:
Aww man, now I’m blushing even more. Please don’t worship me, my collection really is NOTHING compared to the rest of the beauty bloggers. But I highly appreciate the compliment :)

Prettybeautiful:
I’m waiting to see your collection :D

Makeupfairytale:
No amount of makeup can make crappy skin look good if we don’t take care of it first ;)

Maria:
Hehe thanks. It just looks like I have a lot of stuff, ‘cos most of them are cheap stuff. At least if
they’re crap, I don’t feel guilty ‘cos I didn’t spend a bomb on them :P

Indulgent Diva:
That’s a great idea. You’d be surprised at how your collection can grow. It’s good to catalog them in your blog :)

Sesame:
Honey, your collection of skincare products will definitely put mine to shame. I guarantee that :P

After seeing your fabulous and well organized collection, I am embarassed to admit that I am a beauty blogger. Admittedly, mine is organized, but I have pared it down to a itty-bitty collection.

Girl-Woman:
The problem is, the collection is growing, and I’m running out of space, so it’s all messy again :(

Yummy411:
Of course I do, and thanks for posting your makeup collection!

GraceSupang:
Aww thanks :) Wow that’s very nice of your boyfriend. My husband would probably get me anything BUT makeup (and jewelry. And electronic gadgets. And … etc etc etc).

Vanessa:
Thanks!

Strawblurry:
Hee hee, thanks very much. Do come again, yeah?

Melanie:
Thanks! :)

Rachel:
I used it as a concealer, although the sales assistant (I bought this one in Japan) said I could also use it as foundation. Mine is 05 Light/Medium. I’ve had no problems with it actually; it covered my blemishes well. Perhaps you put a little too much or the colour’s too light/dark? Do let me know how it goes for you.

Dea:
Thanks :) I got the black drawers from one of ‘em 2-dollar shops (granted, they’re definitely not just 2 bucks). I got the pink ones from Kmart. Do check it out.
I’m not sure if they have Elianto here though. I got mine from Malaysia.

I like your makeup collection, and especially how well organized they are! Since I always have to shuttle (always drive home to my bf’s house every weekend and during vacation), I keep most of the cosmetic stuff in pouches. But it’s going to annoy me somehow.

I have the Benefit Dandelion too! It’s super super sheer, isn’t it? ;)

Cheers!

Hi, only just started reading your blog. And feel compelled to post on this one… I agree with you that skin care is so much more important. I have so many bottles for skincare, and really splurge on it, haircare too. But my makeup basically can be contained in one makeup pouch. And I still get all the compliments on looking nice. Often people thought I have makeup on, when I don’t have one bit on.
