Face of Australia SPF30+ Tinted Moisturiser Is Perfect For Summer

It’s going to be 29C in Melbourne today. It’s already feeling warmer, and for days like this, I’m not a big fan of foundation. I want something that will multitask without me needing to slap layers of cream on. For that, I turn to tinted moisturisers.

I was recently given the opportunity to try out Face of Australia’s tinted moisturiser in SPF30+. I’ve only tried tinted moisturisers by Laura Mercier and Nivea, and a few other BB creams with a maximum SPF of 20, so I was highly looking forward to this.

Face of Australia SPF30+ Tinted Moisturiser

Description:
Containing broad spectrum high protection against the sun’s damaging and ageing rays, this formula reduces the effect of sun damage whilst giving you a light healthy glowing appearance. The non-greasy formulation provides a smooth finish that is silky and easy to apply that can be worn under make-up or alone for a light natural look. Face of Australia Tinted Moisturiser comes in three different shades to suit any skin tone.

The tinted moisturiser comes in 3 shades (Light Tint, Medium Tint, Dark Tint), and the one that matches my skintone to a T is Light Tint. It’s not a rich cream, which is good for my combination skin. It doesn’t leave the skin feeling moist like Nivea’s Visage Q10 Plus Anti Wrinkle Tinted Day Cream. The cream dries fairly quickly after application.

On days when I’m running errands and don’t feel like having a face full of makeup, this tinted moisturiser is perfect. I skip moisturiser, sunscreen AND foundation altogether, as this is sufficiently hydrating and it gives me a light coverage that is good enough to even my skin tone.

My nose does feel a bit oily after a couple of hours after this on. To prevent that, I like to sweep a very light dusting of MAC’s Studio Fix Powder Foundation, just to set the moisturiser in place. Oilies gone, just like that.

I actually prefer this a whole lot more to Laura Mercier’s Oil-Free tinted moisturiser. The price is better, the texture is better, the SPF is better. Needless to say, I’m loving this and foresee myself using this all summer.

Well, Face of Australia, you’ve done it again. When this is finished, I’m definitely getting myself another tube.

Face of Australia’s SPF30+ Tinted Moisturiser retails at AU$11.95 for 50ml and is available at Priceline, Kmart, Big W and selected pharmacies nationwide. Seriously, it’s under 12 bucks for this gem. It hurts me how luxe brands charge us so much more for something of similar quality or worse.

What I like about it: High SPF, light coverage, oil-free and not heavy. Cheap as chips.

What I do not like about it: Nothing

What about you? Do you like using tinted moisturisers? If so, what’s your favourite?

Man that sounds like a great product. But what I really loathe about Aussie and NZ manufacturers is that they tend to only post Active Ingredients when a base ingredient like Dimethicone is the one I’m striving to avoid. GRRAAWWRR!

Kahani: Oh yeah. You’d think they’d be more transparent right, since they’re such sticklers for everything to be done right?
According to Lisa Eldridge, products without silicone will be difficult to blend, right? Well, this blends like a treat, so I’m afraid this wouldn’t work for you 🙁

I almost bought this a few months ago, and then decided not to because I still had to use up my Hissyfit. But if its that good (and it sounds amazing) I think I most definitely will be buying it next time!!

Tegan: I’d definitely recommend you give it a go. Face of Australia hasn’t steered me wrong yet, and they definitely didn’t with this gem 🙂

    Hi Tine,

For normal/combi skin, will you recommend this FOA tinted moisturiser or the cancer council one? I’m hoping to get something SPF30 for my lazy days too..

    1. Tine

Eunice: The Face of Australia one, definitely. I’ve use the one by Cancer Council Australia, and even though it’s not bad, I think the FOA one’s slightly lighter for combination skin.

I bought this and love all the things you love about it, except its too dark for my skin! I’ve found a number of good tinted moisturizers but even the lightest shades are always too dark!! I’ve found that Cover Girl Tinted Moisturiser (CG Smoothers) mixed with a tiny bit of foundation works wonderfully! Cover girl is the only one light enough for me but it also doesn’t have much coverage at all! 🙁

P.S I love your blog! I check it every day and always read the latest post!!! 😀

Nicola: Aww thanks Nicola. That means a lot to me 🙂

Have you tried mixing a bit of regular moisturiser with the tinted one to make it lighter? If you’re really fair, how about BB creams? A lot of them are formulated for Asian skin, and would have quite light shades too. I have one by Vichy that turned my skin white. Literally white 😛

I remember this! Had a tube in Medium and loved it. Then summer made me darker, gah. Another reason to look forward to returning next year!

Ahem, in order of the 2 Wh’s: Some time in February. To Sydney (we can still meet if I waffle over to Melbourne, honey). Aaaaaand I’ll be back for good. =D

Hello new lemming! If you think that this is better than LM tinted moisturiser, I’m definitely going to try and get my hands on this one. It’s waaaaaay cheaper too. 😛

Rinnah: I do like it more than the LM one. It’s better in SPF, it’s not too different in texture and the FOA one hits just the spot in terms of the price. Let me know if you want one, and I’ll send one over to you (or bring it back with me to Malaysia at the end of the year) 🙂

  7. Cherie

Bit late to the party, but do you still recommend this? I’m looking for a tinted moisturiser because I want something with SPF that’s more lightweight than my Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum. I bought the Laura Mercier mineral powder but in a shade too light (dang) for my now-slightly-tanned skin tone. 🙁 And I read your post on the Garnier Oil Free BB cream! I’ve made a mental note to pick up the Asian version when I fly back to Singapore next year. Which do you prefer?- this FOA one, or the Garnier?

    1. Tine

In terms of coverage and the overall look and feel on the skin, I’d recommend the Garnier Oil-Free BB cream. The FOA tinted moisturiser offers only light coverage. However, for summer, I’d still recommend the FOA tinted moisturiser because it offers higher SPF than the Garnier. When it’s hot outside, I prefer not to have to ply on so much creams and lotions on my face, especially on my oily T-zone. The FOA tinted moisturiser allows me to skip the sunscreen (only if I’m not going to be outdoors much). With the Garnier, I’ll still have to put on a separate sunscreen first.

It depends really, on your preference. The FOA tinted moisturiser is creamier than the Garnier Oil-Free BB cream. If you do have oily skin, you might want to try out the Garnier one instead (bearing in mind that a separate sunscreen will still be needed).

      Hope that helps! 🙂
