Garnier BB Creams: Asia vs Australia

Garnier BB Creams: Asia vs Australia

On one end of the ring, we have the Garnier BB cream from Australia – the Miracle Skin Perfector Daily All-in-One BB Cream. On the other end, we have the BB cream from Asia – Light BB Instant Fairness BB Moisturizer. Both claim to be the first BB cream from Garnier. Each one is only available in their own continents.

Which one will win?

*ding ding* FIGHT!

Round 1 – The Claims

Australian BB cream: Australia’s 1st BB Cream by Garnier, new Miracle Skin Perfector is the ultimate daily all-in-one solution for instantly flawless, healthy glowing skin. Garnier introduces a new generation in skincare that combines the best of skincare with the benefit of make-up in 1 product to deliver 5 instant benefits: Hydrates for 24 hours, evens tone, corrects blemishes, boosts healthy glow, UV protection SPF 15

Asian BB cream: The first BB moisturiser from Garnier, enriched with brightening pure lemon essence acting as a natural exfoliator, its SPF 26/PA+++ formula helps to protect skin from daily UVA and UVB rays and covers it with mineral pigments for a nude coverage and long-lasting wear. It delivers 10 instant benefits: More radiant, more even-toned, with less dark spots, with less visitble imperfections, reduces redness, smootherkin, more hydrated, with less visible lines, with less visible pores, reveals its healthy flow.

So that’s 5 benefits vs 10 benefits. Both also claim to be the first BB cream from Garnier. To be honest, I think a lot of the Asian version’s claims are repetitive, but hey, 5 vs 10! You decide who wins this round 😛

Round 2 – Packaging

Packaging is standard plastic tubes for both. The Australian version has a harder and sturdier tube than the Asian one. Plus it contains more product (50ml vs 20ml). Australia wins this one.

Round 3 – Texture
The Aussie version is thick and creamy. The Asian version is lighter, slightly runny, and reminds me of Bourjois’ Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation. I find the Asian version easier to spread on the skin.

Round 4 – Colour
The Aussie version comes in 2 shades – Light and Medium, whereas the Asian one only comes in one shade, which is silly because people with darker skin tones have to miss out on this. The Aussie version has warm undertones, and the Asian one cool undertones. As I have a warm skin tone, you would think that the Aussie one would look better on me compared to the Asian one. Interestingly, the Asian one actually looks better on my skin! Still, I’m letting the Aussie version win on this one, purely because it has an extra shade. The Asian version’s too stingy to have only one shade 😛

Round 5 – The Scent
The Aussie version has a rather strong fruity scent which is quite cloying at times. The Asian one has a much more subtle fragrance. This round goes to Asia.

Round 6 – Wet-to-Dry Time and Finish on Skin
The Asian version takes a lot less time to dry on the skin compared to the Aussie version. When worn on its own, the Aussie version has a very dewy finish. The Asian version doesn’t have a matte finish, but just a slight dewy look on the skin. If you have oily skin, stick to the Asian version if you can.

Round 7 – Coverage
Both BB creams do not have full coverage, only just medium. I find that the Asian version covers my blemishes and evens my skin tone better than the Aussie one. The latter has a light (almost nude) coverage and works more like a tinted moisturiser. I prefer more coverage, and the Asian one ticks all the right boxes. It doesn’t conceal the redness around my nose, but it does tone it down a little.

Round 8 – Longevity
Like I mentioned earlier, the Aussie version worked more like a tinted moisturiser to me. By the end of the day, it was pretty much gone (even with set powder). The Asian one lasted to the end of the day without sliding off my skin.

And the winner is – Light BB Instant Fairness BB Moisturiser from Asia!

Phew, that was a long fight. Eight rounds! It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know which one wins hands down to me. I really like the Asian version of the BB cream. It looks better on my skin, feels better, it’s not overly dewy and many more as stated above.

It’s a pity it’s not available in Australia (it would be a fight with the local one, that’s for sure). I’ve already restocked two extra tubes from Malaysia 😀

i have this one too! and looking at the other bb cream colours you have, i think my shade is very similar to yours, though I think my undertones are on the cooler side, as i can’t wear shades that are too yellow or warm.

and for my oily skin, surprisingly this bb cream wore quite well, and that’s without having any powder on. 20ml is just too little, why not more? lol

Plue: Haha I know, right? So kiamsiap, only 20ml 😛 I suppose they know it’s a good thing, so make less and make people buy more. Tsk tsk 😛

hmmmm I haven’t tried Garnier’s BB cream.. might give it a try when mine is out. Btw, have u tried Skin 79’s BB cream? (They have tons of series now…. But i thought the one came in pink… pink diamond or something is quite good. Perhaps you shud do a review on that?)

Fiseel: I’ve actually never tried the Skin79 BB cream, believe it or not. It’s so popular too. I once tried to test it out (the Pink Diamond one) at a Watsons in Malaysia, but the tester was empty and when I told the sales assistant about it, she said “oh yeah it’s finished”. When I asked her if she could take another one out to use as a tester, she said “no, it’s finished”. Tsk tsk.

Anyway, I’ll try to get my hands on a bottle, and when I do, I’ll do a review on it 🙂

that was a long and enduring war…phew…I am glad asia won 😀 so, I can try this one out 🙂 I have tried only 2 bb cream yet – one is from maybelline n one is a local brand and frankly I didn’t really get on the BB cream bandwagon so not really sure but they definitely are curious products to look into 😀 will check if its available in India!!!

Swati: Hahaha me too! The Asian version is definitely better than the Aussie one for the BB cream. If you can get your hands on it, I highly recommend that you give it a go 🙂

Yay! Just picked the asian version up yesterday, and wore it today, absolutely loving it! 😀

I think ive tried the Asian one but the shade was a wee bit lighter for my skintone and they dont seem to do a much warmer tone ..unless ive missed it. Then in the UK, i saw the same Garnier too i must say it does have a dewy effect ..maybe its my skin type eh. Ive yet to find a BB cream that says ZOWIE to me hehehehehe but, non BB topic here, i must say Za Tinted Moisturiser is still the best for me .. shame they’ve discontinued it ..

    1. Tine

Aww that’s all right. There are so many BB creams out there just waiting for you to try and find THE ONE 😉

Speaking of ZA, have you tried their BB cream? It does cater to warmer skin tones. My mini review of it is coming up this Thursday if you’re interested 🙂

Motherhood has completely changed me and I miss the old ME, reading your blog just opened my eyes back again, this Momma needs to put some pizazz back into her ;)) Im very much interested and will keep my eyes peeled for this Thursday, cant wait!!

          You go girl! 😉

Hi, this was a good report but I have one thing to add. I think, from the comments above, that I would use the Asian one as the perfect cover up instead of having to bother with foundation esp in the hot weather, and the Aussie one for wearing UNDER foundation in cooler weather?

    1. Tine

Hi Kathryn, thanks for your comment. I don’t think it’s necessary to have to use the Aussie one under foundation in the cooler weather. It would be an extra layer of makeup on your skin that isn’t needed. Foundation in cooler weather is sufficient 🙂
