The One Where I Wore A Fascinator For The First Time

by Tine on October 29, 2012

Tim and I was at the Vue at Halcyon on Saturday for a friend’s wedding. Now if you’ve been following me on Twitter and Facebook, you may remember my asking a question or two on whether it’s appropriate to wear a fascinator to a wedding. I’ve never even been to the races before so the concept of wearing one was foreign to me.

The answer to wearing a fascinator was a resounding yes!

Norlin and LeGeeque helped me to choose the perfect fascinator to go with my dress. Nothing too big or flashy as it was my first time. I ended up getting one from Fashion Addict. It was affordable (certainly cheaper than if I were to make one myself) and looked better in real life than it did in pictures.

I’ve never done an outfit post before, so please excuse the awkward posing :P

The funny thing was, I ended up being the only person wearing a fascinator at the wedding!

Blue Fascinator from Fashion Addict

I kept my makeup simple that day; neutral makeup, liquid eyeliner, loads of mascara, rosy blush and lipgloss was enough to complete the look.

Jacket: Zara
Dress: BCBGMAXAZRIA (reduced from $250 to $15. Score!)
Clutch: Colette
Ring: YSL
Fascinator: Fashion Addict

Photobooth Fun!

Photobooths at a wedding? Best idea ever!

So, has the weekend convinced me that I should wear fascinators to weddings from now on? You bet your bottom dollar it has. Especially with spring racing season just around the corner, I’m having a good time at the shops trying on flowers, feathers and nets on my hair! :)

Have you worn a fascinator before? Looking forward to the racing season, perhaps? ;)

Aww thanks! My aunt got me the dress from the US. I almost forgot about the wedding, and had to rummage the ‘robe for any ol’ dresses that I haven’t worn in a while. Noticed this one still had the tag on it. Yikes :P Saw the price tag, the marked down price and my jaw dropped :P

Thanks Gio! Have you worn a fascinator before? Do people wear it to weddings? :P

No, I haven’t yet. I love fascinators but they’re hard to come by here. They’re not very popular and rarely worn, not even at weddings, which is a shame. But I definitely plan to buy a fascinator when I should find one I like.

Woot woot! Looking very beautiful! I’ve never worn one either, so kudos to you. I’m a bit like you, I’m a little intimidated :)

And the fact that no one else wore one and you still left feeling like you’d wear one again is fantastic. Good for you!

Thanks Kaye! I didn’t think I’d be the only one who wore a fascinator to the wedding. It was a Chinese wedding, but they had a lot of Australian guests as well and I thought they would have worn one! :P

You look stunning Tine! That dress was such a steal, well done! I am wearing a head piece to my friends wedding in December and am excited about it, think I am wearing pink which is a bit different as well.

You look fantastic!! Here in Spain where I live, EVERYONE wears a fascinator to a wedding. It’s a trend that started a while back in some cities and now has extended to the whole country. I know a few designers that are make a living thanks to fascinators!
