Read My Lips: Maybelline SuperStay 14Hr Megawatt Lipsticks

Maybelline SuperStay 14Hr Megawatt Lipsticks

Last week, I shared four gorgeous matte lipsticks with you from Shanghai Suzy. Even though they’re matte lipsticks, they’re creamy and doesn’t leave the lips feeling parched at all. For someone like me who’s not usually a fan of matte lipsticks, I really wouldn’t mind wearing them at all. Heck, I’d want to wear them.

Today, I’m going to share four more matte lipsticks with you from Maybelline. Unfortunately, they’re just not up to par. I’m going to go as far as to say I don’t like them. At all.

In terms of the shades and colour payoff, I can’t fault them at all. They’re strongly pigmented and with just one swipe of the lipstick, you’ll get a bright pop of colour. The lipsticks stain the lips as well so you’ll need a makeup remover to fully remove the lippies.

Here comes the part where I don’t like and that’s how it feels and looks on the lips. It’s reminiscent of old-fashioned matte lipsticks; they’re dry and accentuates all of the lines on the lips. They go on the lips hard and waxy. It feels like all the moisture on my lips have been sucked out.

In terms of staying power, I’ve never needed to wear a lip product for that long without the need to touch up. It doesn’t matter if the lippie is long-lasting; I always reapply after a few hours just to freshen it up. I’ve tested these out and while most of them last through meals, at the end of the day, I’d look like I have lipliner on my lips minus the lipstick.

Personally, I prefer a creamy lipstick any time over long-lasting ones so “SuperStay” or not, that’s not a deal breaker for me. My deal breaker is the texture and feel of the lipsticks on my lips and I’m really not a fan of these. If only they were as creamy and luxurious-feeling on the lips like the Shanghai Suzy ones. They’ll be such a winner!

Maybelline SuperStay 14Hr Megawatt Lipsticks

Maybelline SuperStay 14Hr Megawatt Lipsticks retail at AU$18.95 each and are available in 5 colours. You’ll be able find them at major pharmacies and supermarkets nationwide from October.

Have you tried very dry, matte lipsticks before? Which are the ones we should avoid?

When I saw the packaging I thought it’d be lipgloss, or liquid lipstick kind of thing. The colors does look quite pretty and good color pay off, what a shame it’s drying.
I’ve used dry matte lipsticks, that’s back in around 90s when matte lip look was ‘it’ and almost every brands has a matte lipstick range and most of them were quite drying. I didn’t have problems back then because I didn’t have dry lips (how I wish I’m young again without dry lips!)

Oh man, I remember the matte lipsticks of the 90s. I had one, incidentally also from Maybelline, which was dark berry and very matte. I had no idea why I even got that colour, let alone that matte lipstick, because both looked awful on me. I thought I looked hot. I didn’t. 😛

Appreciate the honest review, Tine! I got suckered in by Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss Lipstick packaging recently and while the colour is AWESOME, it was so dry it was almost tough to apply. So disappointing! I’ll probably keep wearing it though!

Oh dear, looks like I’ll be staying away from that Kat Von D lipstick then. Not a fan of drying lipsticks. I heard that their Tattoo liquid eyeliner is fab though. Have you tried that one?

Crazy unlikely odds, but the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner is the EXACT liner I’m using at the moment! I love it. I’d been using the Chanel liner pen which you kinda wind-up (turn the very end of it and it clicks and pushes liquid out, you know), it was forever having blobs of liner appear on the tip. Not the Kat Von D! It’s tip is SO fine and it’s like a regular pen with ready-to-roll ink, super easy to use and winged-eyeliner friendly! I love it!

Oh man, I’m SO getting it now!

This lipstick is a total waste of money. The color barely stays on an hour. Will not buy again

Sadly, I agree. Just doesn’t work for me at all. 🙁

  4. What does it matter?

I love these lipsticks…Love!….you have a problem with them because you have poor lips..
    And
    I’m sorry to say
I had a lot of difficulty to avoid barfing looking at your lips…gross.

    1. Tine

Oh well, no one’s perfect. Sorry you felt that way.
