Glossybox Valentine’s Day Edition

Remember when I posted about Beauty Box a few months ago? A month after that post, Beautybox announced that it was taken over by Glossybox. After a couple of months of “research”, I unsubscribed to the box. No major issues, it’s just that my “research period” was over. Boo! 😛

As luck would have it, last week, I received the February edition of Glossybox in the mail for review. Let’s unbox it, shall we?

What’s in the February box: Proactive Deep Cleansing Wash, Carmex Moisture Plus Ultra Hydrating Lipbalm, Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil, Face of Australia Mineral Lip Shine in Starlight, Love Birds mini nail files, lollies, a $15 voucher for ActiveSkin.com.au.

Glossybox Valentine's Day Edition

My thoughts: Meh. I wasn’t impressed. The packaging was good. Before I tore at the tissue paper and heart sticker, I expected something extra special since they were going with the Valentine’s Day theme. The products were okay; I’ve tried the Skin Therapy Oil, and that one’s good. But everything else just seemed thrown in to fill up the box. I do not count gift vouchers as part of the beauty box because 1) it wasn’t a sample, and 2) you have to spend $75 and above in order to get the $15 off. Erm, no.

Love Birds Emergency Mini Nail Files

Aww these are cute 🙂

I know Glossybox could do better because I’ve seen the ones from previous months by some beauty bloggers, and those were good. February’s just didn’t cut it for me.

Subscription for Glossybox is AU$14.95 per month (this price includes shipping).

Do you subscribe to Glossybox or any other sample beauty box subscriptions? What are your thoughts on them?

Update: I’ve noticed in some reviews, the products received were not the same as mine. Some received a Bobbi Brown mascara sample, nail polish, etc. I thought all boxes were supposed to contain the same products for everyone? Not cool.

I’m so glad I’ve unsubscribed to these meh indeed, all of those products are quite well known brands and easy to obtain. Not very exciting or unexpected really.

Megs: That’s what I thought. The first couple of boxes for all of the sample boxes I’ve tried and seen were good. They were impressive. There was at least one higher-end brand. Now everything seems to be dwindling, which is disappointing. I suppose we can’t have everything 🙁

Tried out my first box subscription. I guess its just not for me. I share the same thoughts with you re: vouchers. Unless its a voucher for a free service or product, I do think it terribly sneaky for them to put it in there to make us pay more just to get a freebie/sample which should come in the box anyway!

Paris B: My sentiments exactly. The point of the box is to try products which we’ve perhaps never tried before. Not make us buy something to get a discount! If it was an unconditional voucher, I could still think it’s okay, but to have to spend a lot of money to get little money off, then it’s something I strongly disagree with. That’s why I don’t recommend buying a year’s subscription even though it’s cheaper per box in the long run 🙂

I received a review box too. Very meh indeed. The Proactive Cleansing wash?Well, definitely not for my skin and I can’t pass it to any teenagers because I know none! I agree with the pretty lame vouchers…I mean at least give us one that you can use without having to purchase something. That way you’re at least going to be trying out the stuff from the brand.

Norlin: Hahaha when I first saw the Proactive Cleansing wash, I was like “are you serious?!” 😛 The box was so beautifully wrapped too, and I was expecting big things. Oh well. Win some lose some.

Hmm the voucher thing is definitely Wrong!! Lust have it will never just put “box fillers” in but luxury and new products. From what I have read they are the best!

Raylene: I’ve only tried Lust Have It when it came with the Australian Beauty Bloggers goodie bag. I have been following bloggers who subscribe to these boxes, so it excites me every time they open the box, and I’m (most of the time) disappointed with them as well. A number of them have unsubscribed from Lust Have It though, so I don’t know what Lust Have It has been giving out lately. Time to Google and check! 😛

so far I’ve been quite happy with the Bellabox service in SG – they’ve sent some decent items like OCC Lip Tars, Pangea Cosmetics, Savoir Faire and more recently Ansley products so I’ll stick with them for a bit more. They could have done better in terms of samples though (especially when they’re samples I could have gotten over the counter!).

As for the different items, I realised the Bellabox ppl have also put different items in the boxes they sent to bloggers to review as opposed to the paying customers. Definitely not cool as it doesn’t paint a fair picture of their services/ offerings.

Beetrice: I’ve unsubscribed to Bellabox after the last disappointing box. Research period is over, and they weren’t impressive enough to make me want to continue. Having said that, they could do an impressive box for March and make me regret my decision 🙂

I’ve noticed that too, that the beauty box people tend to send different items to bloggers for review compared to what the customers will get. I have to say though, that in the case of the Glossybox, I think the customers got a better deal because theirs was definitely better than what I received.

i got the same box as you, lame. Bobbi brown mascara! gosh no fair. The feb lusthaveit box was pretty fab but the packaging wasn’t as pretty, not that that matters 🙂 It came with a LUSH sugar scrub and I don’t like lush on account of how suffocating it is in the store especially on a warm day! but wow, maybe i’ll buy stuff online because this was absolutely beautiful.

Trang: Oooh I can’t take Lush either. A friend once gave me a piece of soap from Lush, bless her. I’m sure it’s a lovely product, but the box smelled so strong and affected the other items. Can’t do it 🙁
I read that the LustHaveIt box for Feb was good, which is great. Unfortunately, we got the shorter end of the stick 😛
