AVON Mega Effects Mascara: The Thingamajiggy Mascara Of The Future!

I first saw the AVON Mega Effects Mascara on Pixiwoo and I thought what the heck was that thing Nic just poked her eyelashes with?! That’s a …what? A mascara??

AVON Mega Effects Mascara

A few weeks later, whaddyaknow. The good people at AVON kindly sent me that funny-looking mascara to try out. I received it on the day before I left for my holiday so needless to say, I popped it in my makeup bag as well. 😛

AVON Mega Effects Mascara

I have to say, this is the strangest mascara I’ve ever seen. I’ve never used a mascara that doesn’t come in a wand and this certainly is an interesting one. So what you do is you remove the red cap, hold on to the groove-y red pad (oh you know I have to say it!) and gentle pull it out. I find mine quite difficult to yank out as it’s quite tight so I had to slowly pull it out lest I damage the handle and leave part of the mascara brush in there. The brush doesn’t come in a, well, brush but in short rubbery britles like a comb.

As it’s not a regular mascara, I initially found it a tad difficult to apply on my lashes. I had to work the angles just right so that I don’t poke myself in the eye. But once I got used to it, it became quite easy to use, especially when it comes to applying short and stumpy Asian lashes like mine. You can even work the brush to a 90 degree angle and use it on your bottom lashes. You can also squeeze the bottle to get more product on the brush (something you don’t see in regular mascaras).

AVON Mega Effects Mascara

This isn’t a lengthening mascara so if you’re looking for length, the Mega Effects Mascara isn’t for you (at least, it didn’t make mine look like long spider legs). It creates volume at the roots and gives a very natural finish to the lashes. It doesn’t leave the eyelashes looking stiff or feeling brittle. I didn’t experience any smudging even after 10 hours of wear.

AVON Mega Effects Mascara

I wouldn’t say this is the best mascara there is in the market. Heck, I wouldn’t even say it’s my top five. But (and this is a big one) for the novelty and damn-I-just-gotta-have-it-to-play-with-it-ness, I highly recommend you check this one out. It’s like a makeup toy that I just had to have! 😛

The AVON Mega Effects Mascara retails at AU$19.99. AVON products are only available through AVON sales representatives. If you don’t have or know one, just call 1800 646 000 (Australian number).

What I like about it: The different angles of the brush allows easy application even for the shortes lashes. Plus it’s the mascara of the future! Next we’ll see auto-applying mascara devices. Brands and researchers, get on that NOW.

What I do not like about it: It’s not easily available in stores.

Have you tried out this thingamajiggy mascara before? 😛

There were other Avon products I used to buy in England. They had a fantastic eye liner that looks discontinued 🙁
On another note, do you know the “IT crowd”? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCt773TCxOQ#t=170. It’s a British TV series that should appeal to your geeky side 😉

Woah… too futuristic for me! but it does look interesting though

Haha I know, right? How very gadget-y!

I happen to like this one. It gives me lengthening effect too. Like you, I wasn’t sure how to use it. It’s all about getting used to it :D. It’s a not-bad mascara to have.

It’s such an interesting mascara! Definitely takes a while to get used to. First time I tried it, I poked myself in the eye!

What an intriguing wand! But I prefer mascaras that give a more dramatic look to the lashes, so I’ll pass on this. Thanks for the review.

Haha no worries Gio. Something interesting to share. 😉

Looks. ..um…interesting lol. Generally I find things like this to be more gimmick and less live without, but it does look very funky. Might be good repurposed as hair something applicator perhaps. …Another vote for the IT crowd btw…sort of like the original big bang theory lol

Haha that’d be a good idea for a hair applicator. Oooh how about a very temporary wash-off moustache dye for men? This will be easy for ‘tache application. 😛

PS: I just watched the IT Crowd video MissCarole recommended. It’s so funny! How did I not know about it?!

So strange! But so intriguing! And the result is amazing, it looks like it defined each individual lash. I wonder if it would work for my unruly and stubborn eyelashes (they grow in every direction with a strong kink).

Haha I know right? It’s one heck of a strange but effective mascara! That’s the thing about this mascara; because you can angle it in many ways, you can use this on all of your lashes! You’ll just have to angle your arm funny to try to get to them 😛
