Cover That Skin, All Of It, With Covergirl’s Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation

Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation

I’ll admit it, when I was first sent this foundation for review ages ago, I dismissed it. I believe it was last summer when I got this and as it was so hot back then, the last thing I wanted on my skin was a thick foundation. I only tried it once and quickly removed it because at that time, I thought it was too heavy on my skin especially in the summer.

So, three seasons later and here we are again, back in summer. Throughout the year, I read plenty of positive reviews about this foundation. Plenty of beauty vloggers of YouTube-land deemed this to be a fabulous full-coverage foundation. When the weather became cooler, I had read enough for this to fully pique my interest and so I decided to properly try it out again.

Where’s my hat because I’m about to eat it now. This foundation is, as the gen-Y-ers will call it, the bomb dot com*. πŸ˜‰

The foundation was just as I recalled it. It was thick and I have to be very careful not to ply on too much because it will make my skin look cakey. It smells like old fashioned soap, like the red Cussons soap bars.

The best way to apply this foundation (at least, for me) is to apply a thin layer of this on my skin with my fingers and then buff it out with a clean foundation brush (my favourite is the one by Shiseido). When I first tried this out, I just slapped on a rather thick layer of the foundation on my skin without buffing it out and the product sat on my skin looking all thick and cakey. After giving it a second chance and doing it properly this time with one extra step, my skin looked flawless. It wasn’t cakey and there was no emphasis on fine lines.

The foundation claims to have the lasting power of primer, coverage of a concealer and blendability of a foundation in one that is shine-free. Yep, all those boxes? Check, check and check. Rest assured that you’ll get full coverage with this one. The only other full coverage foundation that I’ve tried is my favourite Revlon Colorstay Whipped cream foundation. The Covergirl foundie is thicker than the one by Revlon, which is why in the end, I still prefer the latter.

Having said that, this is one heck of a good foundation for amazing coverage. It leaves a matte finish on the skin and lasts for HOURS on end. Oily to combo skin? I think you’ll like this one because you don’t have to set this with powder. Weird, right? Because of its strong matte finish, you’ll make the foundation look cakey and fine lines will be emphasised if you set it with powder. It’s strange for me not to end my makeup routine with loose/compact powder but there you go. One less step = more time to sleep. πŸ˜›

I haven’t tried the famous EstΓ©e Lauder Double Wear full coverage foundation so I can’t compare the two but if you have oily to combination skin and are looking for an affordable full coverage foundation, I recommend you check the Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous Foundation out. At AU$19.95 for a full coverage foundie that also has SPF20, I’d say it’s pretty damn good.

What I like about it: Matte finish without the need for setting powder, dries very quickly on the skin, full coverage without looking cakey on the skin, great lasting power.

What I do not like about it:Thick, takes a while to blend the foundation out.

Have you tried this foundation before? What did you think of it? What’s your favourite full-coverage foundation?

Note: This product was sent for editorial consideration.

*I only learned this term last month. Was I living under a rock this whole time or am I just too old for this shit? πŸ˜›

I heard some delightful things about your blog from Allison from Never Say Die Beauty, so I had to come check it out! She’s right. I’m loving your blog! So you’ve won over a new follower and you’ll see me around regularly. I have drier skin so this foundation is a no go for me. It’s just too matte for my dry skin. I have discovered that it works well if I add lustre drops or strobe cream too it and skip the powder. So it’s not a total loss. I am really enjoying the reformulated CoverGirl Trublend foundation. Great review thanks for sharing!

Aww thank you for your lovely words, Shalunya! Allison is such a star. I don’t think this foundation will suit dry skin because it’s so matte, it’s just going to emphasise fine lines. We don’t want that!

PS: Hope to see more of you here! x

Whilst I haven’t tried this exact foundation, I have used an entire bottle up of the sister brand Max Factor’s FaceFinity foundation and absolutely adored it… speaking as someone who has about 20 bottles of foundation, that’s saying a lot ;-)!!

I plan on picking a bottle of both this and my FaceFinity favourite to try them out together πŸ™‚

Ooh now I’m curious about the FaceFinity. Hey, if this works better than your twenty bottles of foundation, it sure is worth checking out. πŸ˜‰

I wish we have Cover Girl here! I love this foundation. I got my male boss to purchase off Amazon when he went back to US for a break early last year. I don’t find it to be too thick because I use very little each time.

Oh yeah, you definitely need very little at a time. I used too much during my very first application and it looked like cement on my face. No wonder I thought it was rubbish. I wonder why they don’t bring Covergirl to Malaysia. It’s such a classic drugstore brand.

I have this foundation and I do like it. I find that I need a primer to help spread the foundation easier – which is odd because it’s suppose to have a primer built in (?) Anyway, other than that small issue, I like the foundation and love that it has a pump. I would love to see other drugstore foundations add pumps to their bottle foundations.

I would re-purchase in a different shade, I think I have nude/natural beige and I would like to try a warmer shade.

You got that right about the pump. Should have mentioned that it was a plus for me because of the pump too. Makes for easy and convenient application.

Tine, you are soooo funny!! The bomb dot com – lol! Yessss alot of YTers rave over this foundie and I’m itching to try it. Full coverage without needing a powder….very very interesting for an oily skinned lass like me.

When I first heard “the bomb dot com”, I was like the bomb whaaaaat? πŸ˜›

Yeah, you definitely don’t need a powder for this. The matte finish is sufficient without adding powder to set. I find that powder makes it too matte and it sinks into the fine lines. Not a good look.

I’ve recently picked up this foundation as I’ve heard it was a great foundation for oily/combo skin, and I love how it’s great coverage & lasts for hours. But I still found that my T-zone oils up. *sigh* Curse my oily skin!!

Oh dear, sorry to hear this made you oily as well πŸ™ Have you tried a separate primer? I know that the Covergirl foundation also has primer but I find that for oily to even combination skin, it’s better to have primer on prior to foundations. Having said that, this made me oily too but more after a few hours and not very quickly.
