I had a thought. Do you reckon that with so much Photoshopping going around in magazines and now even blogs, that cosmetic companies say “hey, since they’re Photoshopping skin to look flawless, how about we sell them a product that gives them that Photoshopped flawless skin look in a bottle, eh?“. Geez, the things I think about when I’m in the shower. 😛
Think about it. Many beauty brands are coming up with these blurring-skin effect primers now. Indeed Labs came up with the Nanoblur. Garnier with the Perfect Blur. L’Oreal now has the Revitalift Magic Blur. But really, do they even work?
Now you know what I think about the Nanoblur and the Garnier Perfect Blur. Today, I thought I’d share my thoughts about the L’Oreal Revitalift Magic Blur with you. How does it compare with the rest?
Straight up, this is a silicone-based makeup primer. It has a high amount of silicone that gives it that velvety smooth texture as it glides easily on the skin. It covers the enlarged pores on my nose like spackle and gives them the blurred effect. Magic Blur eh? Don’t know about the magic bit but “blurs” my skin, it does.
How does it compare to the rest? To be honest, they’re all pretty much the same. The texture is slightly thicker than the Garnier one but in terms of efficacy, increasing the longevity of makeup and the blurring effect, the results are the same. I like the Magic Blur but I don’t love it, especially not the price. For something that gives the same results, I’d go for the cheaper alternative that is Garnier.
L’Oreal Revitalift Magic Blur retails at AU$29.95 for 30ml.
What I like about it: Covers my pores well, gives my skin the “blurred” effect, allows my foundation/BB cream to go on smoothly without just gliding off the skin.
What I do not like about it: Pricey in comparison to products from other brands that also deliver the same results.

Not sure if they work, but I use the Garnier one over sunblock and underneath mineral foundation – and it really does provide the most gorgeous gliding canvas; whereas when I put mineral foundation straight over sunblock (on a lazy day) the hairs stick and the powder grabs. So, as a primer, it works well! As for the blurring, nah, I don’t notice anything remarkable!
Haven’t tried the L’Oreal one or the Indeed Labs one though!
Yeah these are more primers than blurring thingamajigs. The pores on my nose do appear feathery and not so prominent but nothing remarkable that would make me go HOLY COW! 😛
My skin doesn’t agree with the silicones in these sorts of products and while I haven’t tried any of the blurring products I’ve tried a lot of silicone primers and while I do love the smooth, flawless finish and the way foundation applies over it, I don’t like the fact that they break my skin out!

In that case, I’d say stay away from primers like this because it contains a crap load of silicone. A lot of women can’t take heaps of silicone on their skin either. There’s this foundation by Bourjois that is silicone-free called the Bio Detox Organic (which I think has been discontinued because you can’t get it in Priceline anymore). Have you tried it? Lisa Eldridge talked about it once in her video saying that it’s good for those who are allergic to silicones in makeup.
This product came out in January-February 2013 as L’Oreal Miracle Blur in the US. I remember I went out in a snowstorm to buy this product! What a dope! I didn’t think it worked at all, not one bit. It was a waste of $25 USD that seemed like a lot of money to me to throw away. However, it reminded me of DHC Velvet Skin Coat which I think is a very nice primer that doesn’t make any blurring claims. All that said, it’s interesting that L’Oreal has branded it under the Revitalift line, not sure whether they did that here or not. Enjoy the hair and makeup show!!

Having tried the Garnier offering (massively disappointing) and the Nanoblur on my hand only (massively impressed, but too chicken to invest in a whole tube to do my face too) I don’t think I’ll be going here – it sounds more like the Garnier version, which just did nothing for me unfortunately. When I run out of my HG – Porefessional – I’ll probably try out the Nanoblur given how good it was on the back of my hand (it truely was like a new hand) – people keep buying me Porefessional though at the mo so I have a bit of a stash 😀
I can’t remember off the top of my head how much the Porefessional is; I’m guessing it’s pricier than the Nanoblur? Even though the Nanoblur is supposed to be used on top of makeup, I say just use it under. It makes most of the makeup I’m using now look weird if I use it over them.
