My Updated Beauty Routine: The Summer Edition

My Updated Beauty Routine: The Summer Edition

I haven’t done an update on my skincare routine in a while. To be honest, there really isn’t much to update you on. Most of the products I’ve been using are the same as before. Seldom do I make drastic changes to the products I’m using, especially if the products are already proven to work very well with my skin. Hey if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it, right?

Still, summer is upon us (as you can tell from my complaints about the heat on Twitter and Facebook :P) and it’s time to pack the rich creams away and take the light ones out. When it’s incredibly warm in the evenings, I really can’t be arsed slapping heavy gunk on my skin.

This is what I’ve been using lately.

Day Skincare Routine

DAY:
Clarins Daily Energizer Wake-Up Booster
b-Liv by Cellnique Off With THose Heads Blackheads Sebum Gel
Estee Lauder Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator
Estee Lauder Advanced Time Zone Age Reversing Line/Wrinkle Hydrating Gel Oil-Free
Thalgo Firming Eye Contour Gel

My Evening Routine

EVENING:
Hada Labo Hada Labo Retinol Lifting and Firming Lotion
Cosmetic Skin Solutions Phyto Botanical Gel Advanced Formula +
SKII Skin Signature Eye Cream
Vichy Normaderm Nuit Anti-Imperfection + Rejuvenating Care

Eye Cream

ESSENTIAL SUN PROTECTION:
ALLIE (by Kanebo) Mild Protector SPF36 PA++
Vaseline Healthy Sunblock SPF30

Suncare Essentials

A must have during the very hot days and evenings is facial mists. I’m partial to the one by Uriage. I know this is a bit of a naughty habit because it does dry the skin, but I love to mist my skin and then sit next to a fan. You’d think otherwise when it’s 40C outside because it feels so. Damn. Good. Ahhhh …

Facial Sheet Masks Stash

My stash of facial sheet masks. At first glance, they look like packets of curry paste πŸ˜›

A good treat every few days is facial sheet masks. These are particularly awesome when it’s so hot outside because it feels very cool on the skin. They keep my skin hydrated AND keeps me cool at the same time. If it’s hot in the evenings, I highly recommend a facial sheet mask to cool you down. It’s even better when they’ve been placed in the fridge for 30 minutes prior to application.

Balmy nights are when Tim does a sneaky to the fridge and steals my facial sheet masks to use (one time he very nearly got his hands on my precious SKII masks. OH HELL NO). It’s not about keeping his skin hydrated, it’s just about cooling it down. Good idea, don’t you think? πŸ˜›

Does your skincare routine change with the seasons? If you don’t live in 4-season zones, do you still amend your beauty routine when it gets warmer or cooler?

I definitely do! Like you, I love the facial spray when it’s stinking hot. I usually leave a can in the fridge and it’s lovely to spray on liberally πŸ˜€ I adore it.

Other than that, I switch to lighter serums and moisturisers (day and night) and I reapply sunscreen a lot more frequently. I’ve been slacking in masks – kick me in the butt to get me going again? πŸ˜€

The facial spray can in the fridge is so cool, right? (pardon the pun) It’s just water but damn does it feel good.

Hahaha and I thought you’d be using more masks than I do! Go use one and scare Ah Gao πŸ˜›

The only advantage I get out of it is jackets and boots. Hee hee!

I find facial sheet masks fantastic for dehydration. Someone once told me that using it daily helped her skin heaps. I haven’t done that but I have tried using it every other day for 2 weeks. Man, my skin was super toing-toing after that 2 weeks! And then I got lazy and things went downhill again >.<

I love the sneak peek into your routine. Thinking of mine, it has becoming shockingly simple over the years. Don’t know why that is lol! My guess is laziness haha. πŸ™‚

Is the SKII eye cream any good?

    1. Tine

I’ve been using it for the last 3 weeks and so far so good!

Love that story about Tim stealing your sheet masks!! LOL! Well he’ll keep his skin youthful and hydrated too even though all he cares about is cooling down in the heat. I’ve been meaning to try the Idealist serum for a while now. Interesting nugget: one of the ingredients is actually a Chinese herb (sorry don’t know the name) and is one of the active ingredients which makes this a very well respected and well formulated serum in the beauty industry. I picked up that tidbit of info at a supplement expo I attended last year.

Hahaha he doesn’t care if the masks make his skin look good. Really, at late 30s to 40C heat, even I just want to cool the skin down and not even really care if it’s hydrating >.< Oooh I just checked out the list of ingredients for the Idealist serum but there are too many root extracts for me to decipher which one it is! Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract? Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract? Gentiana Lutea (Gentian) Root Extract? Confused yet? I am πŸ˜›

Where I live we have the four seasons, so I have to change my routine every seasons at least a little; is something I learned this a month ago, because my cheeks where over-drying (remember here in Mexico is Winter) with a cleanser, so I have to stop using it, and instead of only using tinted moisturizer with SPF 20 now I put a layer of another moisturizer before of it.

In Summer, lighter moisturizer and a higher SPF sunscreen.

Sounds good, Efrain! That’s what I do as well, although my sunscreen usually remains the same (same SPF for winter and summer). As hot as it can be, I do like it when summer comes around because that means I get to change sunscreens and use a new one πŸ™‚

My daily beauty routine when it comes to your face makeup, pick two products tops. Maybe a combination of moisturizer and powder, or liquid foundation and blush.

    1. Tine

Good idea Clara. Keep it simple and easy πŸ™‚

Daily beauty routine? Mine was so simple I am just do splash cold water on my face, and tightens my skin and moisturizer.

    1. Tine

Haha as long as it works, good enough! πŸ™‚

Thanks for sharing your updated skincare, it’s Summer down here all along! LOL! Your post reminded me that I haven’t used any sheet masks for months! No wonder my face needed the extra Boost of Hydration! πŸ˜€

Hahaha get back to your facial sheet masks! I reckon since you have quite bad morning sickness during the your first trimester, the smell of the sheet masks could be too strong for you (some, especially My Beauty Diary masks, do smell quite strong). Now that they’re finally gone (yay!), it’s good timing to go back to boing-boing skin πŸ˜‰

In sg it’s always summer all year round but I change my skincare according to the weather because twice a year we do get monsoon period so I’ll use heavier textured creams for face and body. Other times I’ll mainly use products for hydration and brightening that’s lighter in texture.

In the day I’ll try to keep my skincare light, cleanser toner hydrating serum (I work in air conditioned environment) and light moisturiser, uv. At night I’ll use oil serum, eye cream, face cream then I’ll seal in the goodness with another face oil. Pretty heavy textured πŸ™‚ twice a week I’ll use facial mask. Same here, my sisters do try to steal my masks so now I keep it locked beside my bed and only put one when I want to use it.

Thanks for your comment Kay. I like how detailed your skincare regime is. In Malaysia I think my skincare routine was probably the same all year long. Had to keep it as light as possible as I didn’t have AC in the room back then. My face would melt at the sound of anything rich πŸ˜›

  11. Peta

Yes I’ve changed mine a bit now the weather is so hot and sticky! I’ve been using oils and body sprays instead of thick lotion, overdoing it on the facial sprays (I know, naughty!) and swapping to lighter moisturisers.

Hehe I’m so jealous of that stash of masks!

Firstly Happy New Year Tine !!! Hope 2013 started off beautifully for you and your hubby.
I saw this post last Monday and was excited to see it ..i remembered you posted something similiar to this on a separate page before and was looking for it just to get some ideas on skincare that I could try as Im pretty much a combo skin woman. And now you’ve posted again, i truly enjoyed reading and ‘lookin’ through your skincare arsenal. I need to reboot my skincare regime as i told you before ..i took my post pregnancy good skin for granted and now i have a price to pay for being ignorant ..wellllll..i have my gynae to blame too because he kept telling me not to use any cream or moisturiser throughout my 1st and 2nd trimester due to its content πŸ˜› ah well at least i gave birth to a cute fair skinned bubba.

I just love how you break down your skincare regime with different products. Mind telling me what you think of EL’s Illuminator and Hada Labo’s Lotion …im still in search of a good cleanser and now my skin feels rough πŸ™

    1. Tine

Happy new year, dearie πŸ™‚ Haha thanks for enjoying my skincare arsenal. It’s quite a lot, isn’t it?

Actually your obstetrician was half right about asking you to stop using any creams, lotions and potions during your pregnancy. E.g. pregnant women are not to use any products with retinol in it, at least not during the duration of the pregnancy. Still, there are a lot of safer creams out there that are suitable for pregnant women πŸ™‚

I didn’t find the red Hada Labo lotion any different from the regular white one. It’s a step to boost hydration to the skin and prep it for my serums. As for the Estee Lauder Illuminator, I only use it during the day because it’s shimmery πŸ˜› (which is why I consider it makeup instead of a serum). I’ve been using it for well over 6 months I think, and I like how my skin looks during the day with it on.
