Clinique and I, we have a special bond.
I had a lot of firsts with this brand. It was my first high-end skincare (I considered them very high-end back then since I was just a student when I started using Clinique. All hand-me-downs, by the way. Mum wouldn’t actually buy them specifically for me). My first lipstick was from Clinique. First Holy Grail chemical exfoliator. First high-end perfume. It’s no wonder that Clinique holds a very special place in my heart.
Today, I thought I’d share with you my top 10 picks from Clinique. If you’re new to the brand and would like to know what’s worth checking out, please read on. Here they are in no particular order.
1. Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief
This was in my list of top 10 moisturiers when I ran Skincare Favourites Week a couple of weeks ago. I love how this gel moisturiser feels on my skin. Some like to use it as a mask but I prefer to use it as a moisturiser. It works for me as a day cream and even a night cream. The Fortified version is good too but I still prefer the good ol’ Moisture Surge.
2. Almost Lipstick in Black Honey
My first lipstick! When I was still in school, makeup was forbidden (it still is, I’m sure), so that Black Honey lippie was my contraband. It came in the original green packaging and was small enough to slip into my shorts pocket under my pinafore without being detected. During random spot checks by prefects, I’d stuff this lippie in my bra just to avoid getting caught. Haha, man, I had tubes of this! Out of nostalgia, I picked one up last year in its new silver packaging and whaddyaknow, it’s still the same, good ol’ lipstick I still remembered. If you’re wondering what it’s like, it’s a tinted lip balm with in sheer rose. A part of me wish it was still sold in its classic green packaging though.
3. Turnaround Concentrate Radiance Renewer
Again, this was mentioned in my top 10 serums during Skincare Favourites Week. This doesn’t work for everyone but boy oh boy, did it work for me. It was my first chemical exfoliant serum and one day, I woke up, ran my hand over my face and got a shock at how smooth it was. It was this serum, people.
4. Chubby Stick Intense
I have to admit, I wasn’t a fan of the original Chubby Sticks when they were first launched. The colours were a tad sheer for my liking and the staying power was mediocre at best. But when I tried the Chubby Stick Intense, wowza. The colours are rich and intense. They’re not sheer but packs a punch in beautiful colour. Staying power is also much better with the Intense. If you love a bit more colour on your lips, go for these instead of the original Chubby Sticks.
5. Clinique Happy
This was the first high-end perfume I bought when I started working. I’ve purchased cheapie fragrances before that but when I started working as an engineer in 2003, I wanted something more grown-up. I had a little gift-with-purchase deluxe sample of this that was handed down to me by Mum. I remember loving it so much that I immediately purchased a full-size bottle of this a week later. I had 2 bottles of this and also a bottle of the Happy Heart. Ahh the memories…
6. Take The Day Off Makeup Remover
I love bi-phase makeup removers and this one is fab. This is very gentle on the eyes. I’ve not experienced any irritation on my eyes when I need to really go in and get rid of my waterproof eye makeup. I’m currently using a small gift-with-purchase bottle of this after finishing a full-sized one. Between you and me, I much prefer this to that popular bi-facil one, if you know which one I mean. *nudge nudge*
7. Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm
It baffles me that I took so long to finally try this one out. It’s a bloody fantastic cleansing balm. If you’re used to the hot cloth + cleansing balm method, you can use it with this cleansing balm but if you’re a bit of a lazypants like I am and can’t be arsed with a face cloth, you can remove this with water and there’ll be no greasy residue. Say goodbye to bringing cleansing oils with you when travelling because this is a much better and safer option. No more spills!
8. Turnaround Instant Facial
Before this became the Instant Facial, there used to be a 15-minute one which was seriously so good, I had to buy 3 to stock up when it was discontinued. When they came up with the Instant Facial, I was a bit skeptical as to how effective it would be compared to the original 15-min one. It’s not as rich, I’d give you that, but the results are pretty much the same. Instantly smooth and soft skin. Man, I can’t believe I forgot to add this to my top 10 facial masks!
9. Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion +
My first moisturiser was the original milky DDML. I used that for well over 10 years before I decided to try something new. Man, how far it has come. The DDML+ is so much better now. The reformulation makes it a great moisturiser that I believe is superior to the original DDML. It’s more hydrating now and doesn’t leave an oily sheen on the skin (the original DDML tends to do that for me).
10. Long Last Lipstick
Since I was pretty obsessed with just one lipstick from Clinique (the Black Honey), I never really tried the rest that the brand has to offer. It was actually Yishan who recommended it to me when she had her Clinique event at Mecca Maxima. I was half expecting it to be a tad drying and perhaps not very pigmented but when I tried the one in Runway Coral, yowza! It’s so creamy, doesn’t dry the lips out and the colour was spot-on. It was right up my alley. I had that lipstick in my makeup bag for well over a month before I decided to try something else. For me who is so fickle-minded when it comes to lip colour, it’s a big deal.
There you have it, my top 10 picks from Clinique. See what I mean by a lot of firsts? Even though I may be trying out other products from other brands, I’d always recommend Clinique to anyone who’s curious to give their products a go. Maybe there’s something in there that will become a good first for you too!

2 Honestly I haven’t tried anything from the Clinique brand yet as you said when you were a student it was a high end brand for you at that time now same is my case I am a university student so at the moment I use only drugstore brands but I do have a wishlist from Clinique I really really want to try their chubby sticks because everyone raves about them and I also want to try their moisturizer which a lot of people say is really good for dry skin hopefully one day I will get my hands on these things from my wishlist…fingers crossed 🙂

I’m from Melbourne, Australia and my favourite product is the Clinique Chubby Stick in Whole Lotta Honey. Not a lot of things I see on TV would look as great on my mocha skin as it does on TV characters but when I learned that this was the colour the fabulously chic Olivia Pope used on the popular series ‘Scandal’ I couldn’t resist and its the absolute perfect “my lips but better” colour! Very wearable and office appropriate to boot!

My favourite Clinique product is the Anti-Blemish Solutions Liquid Makeup. Its the only (yes THE ONLY) make up product that doesn’t break me out or slide off my oily & severely acne prone skin. From the very limited options that acne sufferers have, this is definitely the best. I love the coverage & perfection it gives. I am no pro in applying makeup but this foundation is so easy to apply & hides all the redness+scars 🙂
I love the professional & friendly approach of the Clinique India SAs. They never try to sell something you don’t require & are never pushy. The lovely SA who helped me choose this foundation & the right shade spent close to undivided 45 minutes me….. i was bowled over, right there 🙂

When read about your First with clinique, we have a few similarities such as my first perfume I have my first expensive perfume from Clinique Happy Heart, not so into their 1,2,3 skincare..too drying..however, recently loving
1) TTDO cleansing balm, cloth method, for sure(reading your blog feels like reading my mind-feeling towards the balm)
2) Moisture intense hydrator (i use for night time)
3) Long last lipstick in Water Melon.
4) Chubby stick intense (hieftiest hibuscus and super strawberies-great combo)
5) pop blush in berry

My first brush with Clinique is the yellow bar of facial soap as a pimply teenager, a gift from my uncle to rescue my face. He must have heard good things about Clinique as he is not into skincare. At that time, it was like ‘wahhh such an expensive’ soap and it comes in a nice soapbox. I really treasure that soap and the thought that comes with the gift, although it didn’t do much for my face. When I started working, I tried the 3 steps skincare and the eyecream but my skin remains oily and pimply. So Clinique fell off my radar for years until recently I tried the Turnaround Renewer and I’m wowed by it. Perhaps it is a good time now to rediscover Clinique, especially the serum products.

The Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief – I have often commented over the years that I was born in the wrong country. Having such fair skin and living in the harsh climate of AUSTRALIA my skin and the sun just don’t get on. I am constantly in search of products to hydrate and moisturise my already dry skin. This product, I would love to try.

My name is Jen, I’m from Canada. I have several favourite products from Clinique.
My #1 is the City Base Compact Foundation (Fair). This has SPF 25 and covers everything you need to cover. It does not wipe away concealer (which I put on first over sunspots) and it does smooth over pores. It is one of those cream to powder build-able types (from before we talked this way). It is my old stand-by. I think they just re-named it, so now I just point through the glass for it. argh.
Second is the Different lipstick in almost any colour – I love Guava a lot though. The Different Lipsticks do moisturize, not a lie.
Third and possible best ever on the market is the gloss mascara, not rue of the official name but it is the best mascara out there, period.
Other make up stand outs are the chubby sticks, tinted moisturizer, ip gloss tubes that are thankfully NOT flavoured!
Skin care is also tops. The gel line is lovely for eyes and face – try also the moisturizing spritz. 3-step is the holy grail of skin care regimes not just for it working well but also for marketing, I would imagine…
I love Clinique! Can you tell??I still use other products, but I’m at Sears or the Bay at least twice a year stocking up on my faves from the counter 🙂
